Analysis Board too small in Chrome [online chess]

The popup window size that is created when clicking on the 'Analyse' link in the Online Chess page is too small to show the moves list and must be resized to accomodate it.  This behaviour is exhibited no matter what board size is chosen in the settings page.

This is under Win7 and I've tried to find out whether this behaviour is a client issue or not and I've come to the conclusion that the state is determined by the site.  I would hope to be wrong and if there is a method to alter the default popup window size by tweaking some browser setting in Chrome?  Thanks.

This may be related to your premium membership expiring, perhaps.

Thanks KJ, but no, I'm fairly certain it isn't that.  On inspecting the element I have the suspicion that this bit of code (highlighted in red) <a href="#" onclick="PopAnalysisBoard(); document.getElementById('squared').value = -1;" class="banalysis">Analyze</a> is the culprit. (The same behaviour is exhibited when the next popup link is invoked -- the Opening Explorer Report)

Okay.  I've done a bit more testing and it appears that if the default zoom is something larger than 100% then the window isn't large enough to have the entire board and moves visible without the user stretching the window.  We have the default set at 150% for Chrome so the window only shows part of the analysis board before stretching to show everything.  I tried to find something to tweak and even went to so far as to edit the preferences file in the user/appdata(etc..) directory with no luck.

Hmm. I'm not sure then. Hopefully staff can help you out.

Thanks.

chungle, yes the zoom on a browser can mess things up. Can you try setting it to default (100x) and see if this helps?

It's working fine for me on default zoom.

Thanks Kansha, but that's the trouble.  The default zoom 100% is too small to be useful.  There are two scenarios and both require a larger zoom:  1) A relatively small screen 17" like our laptop and 2) A fairly big screen 23" because there's room to spread out.

I messed up the title of this forum posting and should really have thought a little more about it.  It should have read "Popup analysis window doesn't vary with zoom level".  The thing is though that it didn't occur to me that that was what the problem was until I looked a bit more into it after being spurred on by GeniusKJ's suggestion!  FireFox alters the popup window size based on zoom level so I assumed that Chrome would have the same behaviour!  But that's not the case!

So, I believe the site dev's need to make a slight code alteration to accommodate this Chrome idiosyncrasy of not altering popup window size based on zoom level.  I looked pretty thoroughly to see if there was something to do here on the browser end but came up empty (outside of using a zoom level that is uncomfortable to use).  I'm still kind of hoping that there is something I can do on my end because I know things like this are annoying to accommodate if there are user solutions out there.

It's been a few days since I first posted (apologies for being unclear in the title and somewhat confused in the post itself).  I've looked around some more and this issue - chrome popup windows not initially enlarging to encompass content viewed at a zoom level >100% and it appears to be related to the site design software utilized (not totally sure but that's the sense I get) and thus needs to be specifically coded for.  It may also have something to do with the way Chrome handles the API call.

Thanks for all the information Chungle! I'll be reporting this to the development team so they can take a look.

Thanks Kansha, much appreciated.  I just found it to be such an odd thing!  Especially when FireFox handles the exact same situation by scaling the popup depending on %>100%. o.0

There might be a solution to this:  When the popup is invoked the origin is about:blank but Chrome's zoom works by hostname.  So if the origin is changed to chess.com then hopefully it should work properly across all browsers?  I would love to know if this works.

Mauve26

has the issue been fixed?

chungle

No.  The bug has been corroborated by another Chrome user (on another page exhibiting similar behaviour) and reported to Google.  So, that's something at least.
