Between this, the security problems with it, and Apple's refusal to support Flash, HTML5 is looking more and more like the platform for the future.
Chess.com after Java

I'm at a loss here. I just disabled Java and not a single feature on Chess.com stopped working. From what I can tell, this is all a .Net application with client side JavaScript.
What Java?

"Computer Workout" on Chesskid is Java.
Analysis Board in Chess Mentor is Java.
Computer Workout is the main thing. It would be super instructive for the kids.
I'm sorry to see that nothing appears to be happening on this issue. As noted, Java is not available on Chromebooks. Chess.com seems to be spending its time on cosmetic changes to the website, not on moving beyond Java to HTML5, for example.

there will be no more java in a few months :) we already have a new vs computer built in javascript/html5
Not sure if the java issue is sorted out with the upcoming major update, but here's something that could interest you:

The page referenced above doesn't seem to mention anything about Java.
If "play against the computer" will be implemented using a non-Java app that would be great.
As a new member of chess.com, and a person new to chess overall, I would love to play against the computer on this site. Unfortunately, my chromebox does not suppor java. I play the computer at other sites, instead.
My experience here will be even better once java is a thing of the past.

This was posted 20 months ago, and vs. Computer still requires java. Can we get a status update on when we will be able to play vs. Computer on a Chromebook?

To get the new vs. Computer you need to use the new version of Chess.com. Look at the bottom of the page, and there should be a link "Try the new Chess.com".
I'm enjoying the extras of premium membership, which I have bought for myself and my children (at chesskid).
The Java elements don't work well on my Mac, and they don't work at all on the chromebook I bought to more or less exist as a dedicated chesskid/chess computer. With Java increasingly not worth enabling on computers that can run it, my hope is that the site is planning for a day when it can offer the same extras without it.
