As you might know the site for chess.com but aimed at a younger audience is called ChessKid.com. This threat isn't intended to be about how bad it is, it is simply a suggestion about how it could be better.
When I started playing chess I studied the wrong things at the wrong time. I flooded my head with opening knowledge, yet I was still unable to recognise basic tactics. Chess was something new to me, and I liked it. I started my journey by watching youtube videos about the game and reading books to help me as I went along. It was at this time I found Chess.com. I simply searched chess into google and saw this site. It had the most members at the time so I thought it must be good. I started playing chess online for the first time. Needless to say, I was well .. not very good. My rating plummeted to about 800 while I was playing blitz games. but I kept on going. I started to learn how to get good at chess, I learned the right things and played standard games that all helped me to get better. I was still quite young then, an age that ChessKid.com would be very happy to have me as a member. But it was only when a friend mentioned the site I had even heard of the place.
I had to check it out. I played a few games but soon realised almost nobody was online. Half the time I was playing the computer. It didn't feel like a community. In my opinion ChessKid.com wasn't doing anything wrong but had failed to attract many young players to their site in comparison to chess.com. I find it very likely that there are more players under 13 here than in the ChessKid.com community itself.
So here is my problem with ChessKid.com. It needs to attract more young players to its site and Chess.com could use its influence on the online chess community to steer young players there where they can find material which is much more interesting by their standards.
Because right now Chess.com could do more to attract kids into their kids site.
