Thanks Ret , but I do realize that freedom of speech is just a nice thought and it doesnt really exist..... anywhere.

Thats utter nonsense. Our country is too stupid to do anything against hate preachers. Case Study: Captain Hook.

Otherwise known as Abu Hamza:

Currently in Belmarsh Prison (UK), held on remand pending extradition to the U.S., to face terrorism charges related to his "hate speeches". So then, not much difference, whichever side of the pond you live.

I was born in BiH he lived there. His speeches are not only reason why is he in jail.

Come on man...you cant say stuff like that (well you can but that is not right :)

There is no absolute freedom and there is no absolute freedom of speech. You are free to do what ever you want as long as you dont hurt someone else with your actions;you are free to say what do you think but there are limitations too.

But there is freedom and freedom of speech.

There is freedom but not absoulte one!!!!

There are some lines that we can not draw, and there are some lines that we can not back away from. What are those lines that are drawing limits of humanity and who divide humanity from inhumanity?

OMG when I asked a simple question I wasn't looking to have a discussion on the human rights of hate preachers and racists.

To give a little more background, the guy was looking to start a discussion with me on how we need to rid the World of Indian people. Not being Indian myself it doesn't affect me however most of us here joined this site to play chess not to listen to the opinions of deluded biggots.

Also to those of you who wish to put this under freedom of speech and people have a right to preach as much hate as they want, you are not much farther from arguing for the rights of peaodophiles with regards to viewing sick images of kids.

So if I had to put myself in a camp of common sense when it comes to free speech, then so be it. In the meantime I'll be flicking the V to all those human rights defenders of peaodophiles and racists.

Hi, I don't normally bother with stuff like this but I just played someone called who said an incredibly racist thing whilst I was playing a game with him. Something to the words of "Hitler should have finished what he started and kill all the Indians". I couldn't be bothered to correct the factual inaccuracies in the trash he said but nobody wants to listen to idiots like that. I'm sure chess.com acknowledes people's right to free speech but hate preaching is a different matter. I'm from England normally and the things he said could have got him arrested in my country.

So I was just looking through the options and wasn't sure where I send a complaint like that to and just wondered if anybody knew. Thank you in advance for any help in this matter.

All you can do is feel sorry for people that ignorant.

Before you go overstating the freedom of speech in this country (which as Ret indicated doesn't apply in this case anyway since chess.com is not the government):

1.  We live in a country where it is possible to be fined a half million dollars for saying a certain four letter word on the radio.

2.  We live in a country in which we can be "locked up" for playing a card game for penny stakes on the internet in the privacy of our own homes.

3.  So please save me the "Land of the Free" garbage.  It just makes people laugh at our hypocrisy.

Here's one time I'm proud to live in the US. Our ability to say almost anything we want is amazing. I think the only restraints in the US is speech intending to defame others, and speech trying to incite violence, and similar things. It's great, in my opinion, that hate speech is tolerated here. At least I think and hope that it is.

On chess.com however, Eric decides what is allowed, and I don't think he would allow hate speech like that.

I think it's funny when people say "well I can't say EVERYTHING I want so this freedom stuff is just BS." While it would be nice if our principles of liberty were absolute, you have to remember that in quite a lot of countries you could disappear if you say to your friend that you dislike the government. Our freedoms may not extend as far as they should, but to say that it's all a bunch of garbage is hyperbole.

On some level I honor the right to speak against tyranny ,as well as try not to shove my morals/ideaologies down anothers throat.I do this in hopes that they learn the hard lessons from their foolishness.

I have to say that in the right mood, in a secluded place, I would have caused that individual to need to seek at least a dentist, and most likely an emergency room.

When one decides that it is ok for another to murder people, who are only seeking to mind their own business and live their lives (not murder another as a way of life), they themselves don't deserve to take another breath. Preferably with a heavy weight tied to them as they fail to swim. If they are foolhearty enough to spout at the mouth about it, they deserve what ever someone decides to stuff in there. I'll live by this idea, no matter what it ever costs me.

It's sad when people think the U.S. constitution was written to garuantee the equally opportunity to do wicked and good. It was obviously written to deny any attempt of any tyrant or entity that would take away our rights to be able to do what is right.

Is freedom of religion supposed to give a satanist the right to murder a human baby on an alter as a sacrifice to his god?

Was freedom of expression intended to give people a platform to put ideas in place to in turn try to undermine the freedom of expression itself?

For those of you who already knew this, please forgive my rhetoric, I hope some of you can maybe now see the forest and the trees.

Anytime you feel youre gettinig the freedoms you deserve, feel free to move to China and post this.  Its sad that people simply dont appreciate what they have here.

bigryoung

you say you are normally from England. when you aren't from England where are you from?

nameno1had

There will never be true freedom without peer to peer accountablilty. If there is no deterrent or punishment, injustice would be the rule of law. I realize that to some degree people disagree over some things being right or wrong, but many are blatantly obvious and some people would rather allow greater freedom for lawlessness so they can't be held accountable for any of their actions. That is despicable.

DrSpudnik

New England?

Jebcc

If you want to see tyranny you only have to look across the atlantic to our downtrodden brothers and sisters in britain who are obligated by law to bow and scrape to an old broad in london that is ethnicly german. may God Bless the United state of America

Jebcc

dont forget our brothers and sisters in canada and the bahamas are shackled with the bonds of tyranny since the so called "Queen" of England is the titular head of government of these lands.

DrSpudnik

oh boo hoo hoo!

What horrors! I had to be polite to the Queen! Cry

ok drspudnik you list your land as America thus you mock.  brittish subjects are obligated by law to be polite to the queen to the point that they must get down on their knees.  by contrast in america if you do not like your governor, senator representative or president you can tell them to "^^%%%*" off.  the point here is we get to mock by right the brittish do not.
