Been reading these posts for a while now. I do NOT like the new version at all. Some cool new features, BUT it lags like crazy, even when you drag a piece to move it...it moves like a sequence of little pictures, as opposed to a smooth movement. Could it be my computer, or do others experience the same thing? Much prefer the old version! Just my two cents...Cheers!

In v3, click on “share” icon, a dialog box appears in the centre of the board. Click on “download”, then you get the pgn file;
On any player’s archive....
...
Alerts, from your home page…
...
From a game, there is a direct download button: a box with an arrow. Don't have to click share first.
On the archive, it is harder to move very far back. I usually use one of the pages and then change the URL to the page I want to go to. Do the same thing on other paginated items. Though, I used to do it like that on v2 sometimes, if I had to go far back.
Alerts, there is a clear all.
Notes are certainly a little harder in active groups, especially if you want start from the older ones and work forward.

If we have to move to v3 will Chess.com issue clear guidence for the computer illiterate?!
As with anything new/different, all it takes is some time to get used to. No one is asking you to split the atom. Just go to V3, and spend the time getting used to it.
Yea buddy. According to some here the paying customers are the only problem. They say there is nothing wrong with v3 - just me.
On the premise of "if it's any good , it's worth paying for" , perhaps you have prejudiced the outcome of the forum's V 3 adoption argument ?!
Your considered opinion is conclusive , don't you think ?
.......I meant to say " Please do think ! "
Let's hope the New Year has more clarity and acceptance.

Vote Chess. V2 v. V3.
V2 - If it's not already in the yellow-bg square, high-lighted, one can find a Vote Chess game quickly with Home-->Vote Chess--> click on game.
V3 - I had to sit there and ponder a bit on how to navigate to get to my list of Vote Chess games. Eventually, I attempted: Share(?) --> Clubs (so I can get to my 'clubs' page) --> My Vote Chess --> click on game. 4 steps. I suppose V3 Man will tell me what I did wrong. I'm telling you that UI design is wrong.
So then I decide I want to try to put a diagram of a move sequence in to the Vote Chess game notes for my team to ponder.
V2 -- Highlight the FEN string on the right-side of the screen, copy, push the chessboard icon to open up the Insert Board window, copy FEN string into the FEN field, push Next, start making moves, enter comments, plug in alternate lines, on the last pages, add in game information with tab-delimited fields, format the board color / style if you like, punch the Insert button when done. Easy.
V3 -- Holy moly. Good luck finding that FEN string. Something I've mentioned 15 months ago. Its still hidden. You have to know to hit the "↡" download icon to bring up a pop-up window to show both the PNG and FEN strings (though the FEN string is unlabeled---you have to know that you are looking at it). Copy. Then, close that window. Click the 'chess board' icon to pop up the Insert Board window. Click the "▶" arrow to insert FEN string. The fields are not easilly filled in; each game info field is a bunch of "??" marks that must be mouse-highlighted before editing. Not Tab-delimited. One must scroll to see each field not viewable. Lines are input, somehow. How one makes alternate lines is not entirely clear. In V2 - BUTTONS with LABELS make it very easy to insert Variations and comments. In V3, there is NO HELP to the user. I suppose 'hovering' solves everything.
Vote Chess Board Insertion -- V2 wins tremendously. 30-40 seconds to put in a board with a few lines, commentary, and game info. In V3... ow, ow, ow... its like the UI designers are trying to punish the users for ever thinking to try to do something like that.
V2 >> V3.

Distress call from a ship: We are sinking, we are sinking!
The radio operator on the coast: What are you singing?

Good God Ya all ??? We have discussed this over and over again. Saying the same things different ways.
For the last time lets just talk about FACTS.
Fact -1 V2 was built on a Platform this is obsolete. No way to update the core programing not even for security issues.
Fact - 2 V2 hasn't had a sofware update in a very long time and will not ever get another one.
Fact - 3 V2 has to leave as it is not possible to keep it. V3 & V2 running at the same time drains resources and that V3 needs to be fully functional and with speed increases.
Fact - 4 V2 & V3 share the same Data Base which has caused latency issues and extra bug issues until V2 is done & removed.
Fact - 5 Due to the knowledge that V2 can not stay no matter who says, WHY in the Bloody Heck are we voting on which you like Better ??? It means NOTHING (Hello) (Hello) we can't keep it.
Fact - 6 V3 completely rewritten on a new Platform programed with PHP components in no way compatable to anything in V2.
Fact - 7 V3 GUI was only based on 2 Panes on a page and can never be just like V2 due to V2 GUI having 3 columns per page.
Fact - 8 The closest V3 can look like V2 is by useing this link while running V3 ( www.chess.com/classic )
Fact - 9 Erik should take down V2 right away like before the 1st completely. C'est la vie
Fact - 10 All those that refuse to adjust leave and come back when you see how bad it really is out there.
Fact -11 Then and only then will we get strictly input for helping V3 to be better the (Never V3 folks I say it has been nice working with I guess we will see you again.
FACT - 12 These past 3000 comments are really for know reason so why bother V2 is gone and can not be saved.
So get with the program and help improve V3 or (hasta la vista baby) V2 is over we need to put out of this missionary soon and get the site back to improving V3 moving forward.
Assuming all that to be true, why is v3 not *better* than it is? I've seen two improvements: first, my clubs list (why is "clubs" preferred to "groups"? It's not worse--but it's not better, either) shows the ones I've most recently been active in at the top; second, messages I'm writing, like this one, seem less prone to get lost if I somehow hit the wrong key. Everything else is just worse. And now I've discovered another issue: I now have to delete messages one by one. I used to be able to check off long lists of messages to delete without even having to view them, leaving me with only the ones I was interested in to read. This was especially convenient when I took some time away from the site and returned and wanted to delete page after page of old messages. (On top of that, I don't know who likes the "conversation" style of showing messages--Yahoo switched to that some time ago, too, and I hate it there, too--but I imagine some people must like it.)
Analysis boards don't open as new boards that I can move around to put next to the game board or next to somebody else's analysis. It's also harder to create analysis to insert into posts. (For one thing, pieces dragged to the edge of the board don't vanish. For another, if I do something wrong in maneuvering the board--I haven't figured out what it is I'm doing wrong--the top of the board disappears, and I can't seem to get it back. So, I have to close the insertion board and start all over again. Half the time I just give up.) I can't click through the solution in Tactics Trainer (now just "Tactics"--again, not worse, but better? Really?) move by move; I have to go to the trouble of opening a separate analysis board. (A minor complaint.) Symbols whose meanings are not entirely clear are used instead of words. (Generally--but not always--words do show up if you hover over the symbol--but if you eventually get the words anyway, why get rid of them in the first place? Do we have a generation of illiterates?) (A slightly less minor complaint, especially since words don't always show up and I have to click on the symbol to find out what it does.) My list of new comments in discussion threads doesn't show up in a nice list but instead has to be scrolled down--and then, once I've replied in one thread, I again have to scroll down the list to get to the next one--and then to the next one--and--oh, it's annoying. And in the list of new comments, comments in games are just mixed in with comments in discussion threads without any indication of which are which. The one big improvement that could have been made--going back to having finished games automatically sent to my e-mail, as happened before an overhaul back in 2012 or thereabouts but not after that overhaul--wasn't made. And v3 loads more slowly, for some reason, on lots of pages, and occasionally takes me to a strange-looking screen that I don't even know how to describe (it's obviously some sort of error).
I am not, in principle, opposed to making changes; but good heavens, making changes that make things *worse*? I am sure these changes were made with the best of intentions, but what mystifies me is how some of them could possibly have been thought to have been improvements. Did someone who doesn't use the site make the changes?
Incidentally, putting "www dot chess dot com" slash classic into the URL bar doesn't get me v2. The "old chess.com" option did get me v2--this time. (It hasn't always.)

I do not know what is there good or not good in the new version. The moment I by chance clicked on the button to pass to the new version and the moment I saw my homepage there, I immediately went back to my usual old-version homepage with easy and good navigation (interface)

And yes v2 could have been update to the latest platform/technology and made to still look the same. The fact that it had to be updated did NOT require all the crazy changes they have done.

Spacebux, you remind me of a software engineer I worked with long ago. He was a wizard with the command line, and would often write little programs and macros on the fly that did amazing things. His only flaw was, he INSISTED that the command line was the proper way to operate a computer, and this dumb mouse - GUI thing was just a fad that would pass quickly!

perhaps it is those paid staff members promoting themselves with a new design... bells and whistles to convince the domain owner that mobile devices needs to be compatable to laptops and computers...without a test run to see if the public would accept it...well done boys... after 2 1/2 years you came out with a product that is awful in my opinion...

The command line would not be considered a 'flaw' in my definition of 'efficient' coding. Look, 'TAB'-ing between fields is phenomenally more efficient than scroll, mouse-click, DELx2 or DELx3 before the field can be edited. Why would you want to punish the User with such asinine design?
Granted, they attempted to use a PC/Mobile X-over scheme. Problem is, its not working well in either environment. And Erik ought to know this by now. Even a monkey with with an opposable thumb could come up with a more efficient & convenient method of input.

In parts of the world it is 2017.
In other parts it is still 2016.
You are trying to tell me. In all this man made technology, You can't find a way to make V3 look like V2?
You are only fooling yourselves!
The Owner wanted it to look different. Bottom line!
Even the Chess TV shows look ugly on V3 compared to V2.
It is about appears! It has always been about appears.
V2 looks like a social adult site which offers chess.
V3 looks like a children site.
I mean seriously what type of adults are you trying to attract to V3?
Chess players or Pedophiles?
Literally the trophies are kid stickers!
They have worked for 3 years on this.
3 years and you can't even find a way to make the site look remotely similar!
What a sad new year.

V3 (where a simple submit button is a bug) is for paid lads for their decoration purpose and laggy and v2 the ultimate flawless old school is as smooth as hot knife in a butter.

For the ones who miss the old trophies, some of them stiil can be found at

whoever came up with this fabulous new design needs their neck wringing...
