ECO was compiled in the 70s. Is it always up to date? Does that mean chess should never change? Does that mean any opening set-up that is not listed in ECO is unbalanced and unfair?

I have tried to find many common positions which arise in various openings and cannot find them.

I think if you start making moves from the standard start position and at any point along the way, if you can click on a button to chose that as the start position of a game that there is nothing wrong with that.

Historically, famous players have often played games in which they gave the opponent odds of a piece by removing that piece from the board before the game began. I see nothing nothing wrong with that either.

What about positions which arise in 960? Those should be also be allowed.

What about endgames positions?

The point is we should have the freedom to be creative and innovative.

I support the allowance of start positions from move order or from FENs.

I support freedom of choise!

I posted twice in here already though

As I wasn't able to take the whole week off, I split the days so I was only working Monday and Thursday last week. Because of the issues that arose Thursday from a code push, I was in here again on Friday.

For those who didn't read/see my initial post on here (Page 1 - post # 8) I did say I'd see what I could do about getting the list returned, and if that wasn't possible, I'd get a reason why it was removed.

Not everyone uses a powerful computer, and for those on laptops or older machines the drop down list for the ECO was taking an age to load.

Also with the new language translation feature we're adding on here, those who are participating in this would see 3000 ECO names to translate.

For my second post in here for those who missed it, I did say we were looking at returning the list, but discussing a better option on how to do this.

Post # 40 by DavidStyles was quite close as this is something we're considering as an option.

Please guys, there isn't any reason to make threats to us like "I demand"  or " I'm not renewing till its returned" Frown

I have already said we are returning this for you (on page 2 of this thread - post 38)

Much appreciated kohai :)

nikre

thank you very much kohai.

Thanks kohai. Smile

@ kohai. about the translation, Chrome seem to work fine when right clicking to translate.

wormrose

thanks kohai Wink

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

Thanks kohai, I stand corrected.  Is that all it was?  Someone brought a DOS program to a dogfight?  I guess 3000 ECO entries would take a while to translate.

No, let Chess.com help us, no need to bother HIM.

dubina333

at least, He may inspire Chess.com to take a true decision ))

Hi dubina333, C.C already made their decision, is YES Smile but need some time for doing that.

It would be nice if we could persuade Chess.Com to allow the ability to start from a custom position. Team Matches, Team Vote games, Individual, Rated vs Unrated, etc. I'd be willing to put together a case for their consideration.

If you have something to say on the matter, either FOR or AGAINST, perhaps you could mail them to me and I'll construct them into a request with which to approach them. This way, I can list all the points, not just those I can think of and present them with a clear and concise argument.

Thanks for any input; FOR or AGAINST,

Steve

Same thing we've been doing for a month: waiting and some more waiting.
