Let us block users who have a history of abandoning games in live chess

Please implement that.

The problem with that is, some people ACTUALLY don't mean to disconnect. Sometimes my wifi has died randomly, and I have accidentally abandoned a few games. I wrote them a message apologizing. But if everyone blocked people who have abandoned a game, we'd never find anyone. Because at one point, almost everyone has abandoned at least 1 game.

I'm not saying block them if they've abandoned one game, but there should be a percentage that we can set. Either way, I wouldn't mind blocking people who have abandoned 1 game. If someone has crappy wi-fi that is prone to disconnecting, then I'd rather not play with them. It's just a waste of time if they leave before its over.

Either way, Chess.com has been handling this very well. They receive penalties, and you get points. Whether it's because "It wastes my time" is irrelevant. If you don't have time, don't play.

If your wi-fi dies during games all the time I think people should be given the option to avoid playing you.  Who is at fault (or even if anyone's at fault) isn't really relevant, the result is the same: a poor experience for your opponents.

I posted somewhere else that folks with "stable wifi" and basic decency should have the option of playing a game format where a move is restricted to 45s in a 3-min game. Option needed!

You do get points if they abandon

I'm averaging about 2 abandoned games per day. This is super annoying. Please implement a way to avoid playing these people.

I've played over 360 10 minute Blitz games and only recall two or three disconnects. Maybe I was just lucky.

You were likely playing people with a rating similar to yours. People don't get a rating that high if they continuously disconnect.

Blocking them does not mean you'll never be paired with them. It only means you'll never see their chat

Avatar of RubiksRevenge

The new pairing system should be able to help with dis-connects or aborts.

I think a good solution might be for chess.com to implement a report button like on facebook. This happens multiple times a day for me and when I look at their profiles you can usually see a long list of complaints by other players about them disconnecting or letting their time run out. When someone disconnects and I check their profile and it doesn't have a list of complaints then I give them the benefit of the doubt. I honestly feel that people should have the ability to report bad players. Especially for online chess, since you don't sit across another player where your honor is at stake.

Of course, if you block them, they will just sign up with a new account.

Block their IP? - Useless since most people are given a new IP each time they turn on their computer.

Best to just get over it and move on.

It has happened to me a few times (Like LongIslandMark, I've rarely had this happen). I just went and posted in their profile 'Leaving the game does not prevent you from losing, I can wait for my point. :)', then I find something constructive to pass the time like spreading my charm and wit in the forums.Laughing
