Letting the clock run down!

I have palyed several games especially annoying on Standard games where my opponnet can't win and is letting the clock run down.  After 5 minutes without a move in a 15/10 game can't the computer detect this problem and give me the win or do I have to wait for 13 minutes for their clock to run out?

waffllemaster

This is a bit off topic of me... but in one 15/5 game I was moving pretty fast in the opening, but then my opponent made an odd move, and I spent about 6 minutes figuring out exactly how I wanted to proceed.  I finally found a continuation I was happy with, and right at that moment my opponent resigned, it was very disappointing to me :(  (I can only assume he thought I was letting the clock run down to be annoying).

Now if it happens when you're completely winning, then yeah, they're probably being a jerk.  But for the computer to resign them just because they're thinking for a few minutes doesn't seem fair.

You get to wait.

I am not sure I understand your irritation.  If you had to wait two or three weeks (because of vacation time) I could understand.  But 13 minutes.

philidorposition

5 minutes is a really short time, I take 5 minutes on difficult positions frequently in 15/10 games. But there is a system for detecting regular abandoners, their live chess gets restricted.

If someone abandons a lost game post a note on their profile warning others and block them. Together we can stop this ridiculous behaviour!

I lost a game earlier when my opponents clock ran down under a disconnect but I was declared loser...

current game is similar situation will I lose again?

Melwibs

if connection has been lost how can I post on here?...am new to this site..is my problem a common one?

Melwibs

Again I was declared loser ....this is becoming ridiculous...is there no way of contacting chess.com?

I play with an iPad, and at "minimum", once a session the app force closes. If I'm lucky, when i click the play live button, it will load my game back when I log in. I will have just lost the time it took to open and log in. However, just as often, I can't get back to that game and it will start a new game. It is both frustrating (when I have a winning position) and embarrassing ( because it smacks of quitting w/o resigning).

in a winning position if your opponent waits to long for a  move a pop up appears declaring a violation of fairness policy-- and u win.

TIRURAY

This is very similar to the other thread, abandoning a game.

Yes, trying to wiggle out of a difficult situation takes some time to think, but after giving it some thought, you either play your move or if it's totally clear you have lost the game, lose gracefully, resign! And not let the clock run its course, which is unsportmanlike!

sorry @nangangarap..... whilst 'disconnected' my opponents clock has run down but he has been declared the winner.

Hi Melwibs - at the bottom of the page there are several links.  Click on the link "Help & Support" to report your problem to chess.com.  I have done this in the past and they helped me with my problem (which was different than yours).  - Insidejob

Thanks for all the great responses.  I apologize for not clarifying a bit further.  Opponent just has King left.  I have 1 pawn and my King.  I play white; white king on e7 protecting white pawn on d6.  Black king on c8.  I move pawn to d7 to check black king.  My king still protecting white pawn.  Black has to move then allowing pawn to Queen.  Black then allowed time to run down for the remaining 13 minutes to lose on time rather than move king.  No other play but to move king.  Wherever the black king moved my pawn would Queen.

In blitz games (10 minutes or less I've experienced the computer giving the game and declaring a possible "violation of fair play policy", however this did not happen in Standard game.
