Reasonable compliant

@greg you already said that... it's not just about me... it aborts on my opponents too. (which I don't mind giving more time to those that need more time as well).

If your opponent thinking is a waste of time... I don't know how to respond to your ignorance. If someone can't see how someone might not be glued to the screen every split second while waiting for a game to join (pre-game) and that things happen... I don't know what to tell you.

Just feel free to insult my spelling, make misconceptions about me, and condescend about how you don't need as much time and other shit like most dipshits do on forums... I was trying to talk about something on how to improve an already great site, but assholes are anywhere. Not surprising.

htdavidht

You need 2 minutes to think the first move on a 10 minutes game?

What about no starting any game if you are not ready to play?

AndyClifton

compliant?

TheGrobe

I can get behind this.  Unreasonable rules should be broken, reasonable ones adhered to.

AndyClifton

...which is why I'm basically an anarchist.

compliant = complain

It is cool to understand what other want to say even if they say it in different ways.

AndyClifton

And it is even cooler to poke a little fun at it!

I don't ''need'' 2 mins to make an opening move... point being, the auto-abort feature barely gives you 30 seconds...  I might create a game and either be in the other room getting a drink, or looking away from the computer for a moment or thinking a bit... and it auto-aborts. I mention I find myself apologizing, not only because it aborts on myself... but it has aborted on others I have played, so I (or the opponent) has to make a rematch. Chess is a game of patience, regardless whatever one ''needs'' however much time to move, shall be allowed to have that time.

@htdavidht .... and "ready to play''? I have played over 700 games on here... I figured a piss ignorant condescending response was inetivable (that's ''people''). Would be nice to see a comment from someone understanding of what I have mentioned and an intelligent response.

htdavidht

It is quit often I find people who get in front of the board and then don't move, eventually getting the game aborted.

I always wonder why people do that

Is it they don't want to play whit someone my score? then why they take my game challenge on the first place?

Is it they don't like to find I bloked the chat? To be honest there is more insults than any other thing I find on the chat.

Is it they don't like to play with certanly color of pices?

And so on and go on.

Never was on my mind that a person acepts the challenge of a game, sees that the other player is waiting for the game to beging and then just left the board open, just like that, and go to do whatever other stuff, planing to come back later to beging the game, while the other person is at the other side of the board wanting to play, waiting and wondering what is going on.

I still thinking, if you are not ready to play, don't sit on the board, becouse there is another person who IS READY, and is just waiting for you to drink your water, comb your hair...

At least you care to apologice for wasting people's time. Still you want the time limit to be longer so you can make others waste more time.

CassidyT

Personally I would like to see the time limit a bit longer.  Even though the system is supposed to adjust for browser/connection lag I've had one or two games auto abort because it just took a little longer for my game to load than usual.

But the main reason that I would like to see it extended is because if I'm black and white opens with anything other than e4 or d4..I like to think a bit before responding..instead of racing to make a move so the game doesn't abort.  I usually play 30 minute games and it seems silly to be forced to rush my first move.

keju

Yup agreed. I was once black and my opponent pulled out 1. b4. While I was pondering my reply (15 min game), the server aborted the game.

madhacker

The rule is there for a good reason, it stops people aborting games before they start. If you start a game you should play it, it's only reasonable to your opponent to do so. If you don't want to play it, you shouldn't have started it in the first place.

zborg

Please be compliant with the rules.

And stop complaining, at least until you learn to spell better.  Duh?

If you can't figure out your first move in 30 seconds, buy yourself a copy of MCO (or something similar), and get with the program.  You'll be a better man for it.

thesoulwatcher

CassidyT and keju seem to comprehend.

madhacker is another individual that doesn't comprehend... if someone doesn't want to play they should abort yes...  but if I leave a challenge open.. and it takes a long time for someone to join... I might not be looking at the screen. Also... as others have mentioned, if someone opens with a less common move... I like to take the time to maybe THINK before I move... rather than feel rushed before it aborts me.

I could see the game perhaps auto-aborting if someone doesn't make a first move in say... 5 minutes.. but the auto-abort happens at around 30 seconds.. it's annoying and feels rushed.

thesoulwatcher

@kborg, whatever you say you pompous asshole.

Hurr hurrr I spelled complaint as compliant, it wasn't a typo... I must not know how to spell. I figured the intelligence responses would be far and few compared to the silly /stupid / condescending ones... typical sheeple.

Anyways, I made my point... if anyone else also dislikes the auto-abort feature, please post a comment. Other than that I think this site is the best one to play online, that's my only complaint with it.

Great navel gazing thread you started.  Have you listened to any of the posts yet?

Sure doesn't look like it.

thesoulwatcher

@kborg, you remind me why I love the disable chat option in games. :)

defrancis7

Is there a good reason that setting the auto-abort is set to 30 sec instead of 60 secs?  I am going to assume that all the staff (of Chess.com) needs to do is change a setting in their program.   I do agree that if you sit down at the board you should be willing to play---and for the time agreed to at the start.

waffllemaster

If there is a lot of lag, then I don't want to have to wait 5 minutes.

If you need more than 30 seconds to think on your first move because they played an odd first move then maybe you're not suited for live chess yet.

If this happens often enough to complain about due to you getting distracted or leaving the room, I think you need better concentration... or don't send out a seek and then go do something else... like get a drink which I think is a bit ridiculous.

thesoulwatcher

@wafflemaster it doesn't just happen to me... I find it auto-aborting on my opponents too (that perhaps also need a little more time)

I don't think it's ridiculous to get a drink or do whatever else while I'm waiting for someone to join (before the game).

Don't tell me what I'm suited for, I've played on here for a while... another condescending asshole that misses the point completely.
