A few things:
- I think you're a greeter, not a mentor. It is optional, something you must have signed up for.
- You DO get alerts for messages, even if it is not your move.

Chess.com I guess recently made me a mentor. I have a 1200 rating for Online Chess because I never play. I started playing recently for a tournament for the club I'm in, and the next thing I know, Chess.com assigns me to about 10 people as a mentor. I try to send them a welcome message offering to answer questions, but then I realized, I have no way of telling if they've said anything, unless they move on the board!
Especially for Mentors who need to communicate via Chat, it's important there be a way to know if someone's said something in a chat game from the Current Games list, ESPECIALLY if they're going to assign you as a mentor to 10 people at a time...
