Yes, it's a nice hint there are real human beings at the other side of the screen and we'd be better to behave like it.

You mean you're not all robots?

yeah imagine the name pop up as 'Fritz"

sometimes i think it is fun thinking everyone in here is just one of my imaginary friends.  of course, then i see what some of them say and i can't blame anyone but myself.  of course, if i am creative enough to create all these various characters, i surely should be able to come up with first names for them all.

ok, so perhaps if people really think that these people aren't real they should either lay off the opiates or take some stronger anti-psychotics.  eitherway, adding a name probably wont accomplish anything.

hmmm, would i feel comfortable posting this if i thought that someone may start combing the country looking for someone named arlene?

Zerrogi

Why not?  I've been drinking since 9pm....Zerrogi (Luke)

I really don't see how a first or last name changes anything; If I tell you my name is Alex Blank, are you going to go Terminator on me next time I say something stupid?

Well I think you already know my view on this.

I believe that anonymity on the Internet causes a lot of problems.  I also believe there would be a REAL benefit for not only showing a real user's name, but to uniquely identify every online user.   Users should not be able to hide behind an unidentifiable alias imo.

how would chess.com go about doing it ?

In summary; all men over 18 should be required to provide proof of identity so that we know they're human beings and that they think twice.

Well, I guess the gig is up.  And I was this close to passing the Turing Test.

but as I pointed out children use thier parent's credit card and would it work with paypal ?

oinquarki

Wait wait wait wait wait... - are you guys actually seriously considering this?

planeden

hijole.  3 million people need to provide a credit card number for so that people can find out that we are real.  or because somehow attaching your real first name would make people nicer?  people are jerks in real life, with real names, where there are real consequences.  why would this be anything more than a pain in the butt and waste of time?
