why do premium members get extra time in online chess?

This is where if premium member time out in correspondence games. If they have vacation time a day will be taken out and they will get another 24 hours. How is this Fair? if lets say Magnus Carlsen will pay fide money if he runs out of time and FIDE will give him an extra 30 minutes. This would never be allowed. just because my opponent pays money it doesn't mean that he should be able to get extra time.

PhoenixTTD

If people were sitting at their PC for 3 days straight and just needed more time to make a move you would have a good point.

chrka

Non-premium members also get vacation time. Major difference is, it's activated automatically for premium members before time runs out.

kantifields

can't everyone use vacation time in this manner?

Lou-for-you

Yes, the remark is not correct. Everybody can take holiday. Premium get it activated automatically if the do not play on time. Is a silly difference in my opinion. I pay the premium because of the teaching stuff.

Jimmykay

If you do not think that it is fair that premium members have vacation automatically activated, become a premium member.

Or, petition the Canadian government to provide Chess.com memberships to all citizens. (ahem, this is tongue in cheek.)

Chess.com exists to make money. This is not a bad thing, but a GOOD thing. Why should they not provide perks for those who actually PAY for them to exist?

If you want to the same perks as a paying member, become a paying member.

Alright so I agree It is a good thing that there are premium members and i think that the training stuff the get is good. What I don't like is that vacation time is acctivated if their time runs out. I am playing a guy who should have lost on time a long time ago but hasn't because he is a premium member. Also I noticed that everybody who posted is a paying member. can some free members express their opinons or am i the only one who gets bothered somewhat by this?

rooperi

Well, I'm a paying member, and I think timeout protection sux.

It's ok to get features, but paid members should get no advantage as far as game play is concerned.

Bobbing4Fries

I play for free. My Chess.com rating isn't helping/hurting my chances to get into the Candidates next year, so I'm not sure if I would care if someone who is paying money to get a few extra days to run their position through the engine of their choice before making their move.

tldr: If you care about your rating here that much, you should pay to be a member.

Suvel

they dont get more time, just auto-vacation protection

CP6033

Well I have been playing on chess.com for 6 months and haven't once lost a game on time. As for my rating, The  game is a tournament game, but either I want him to lose on time or to move.

rooperi i agree with you, if you run out of time, you run out of time. this is only in online chess though

Lou-for-you

I never used vacation nor the automatic one. I agree that vacation is annoying. Games can last moonntths...

The timeout protection isn't an unfair advantage, it's just the automation of a feature everyone has.

... the timeout protection not, but premium member get vacations when it is their turn ...

britesorb

It really isn't hard to log on once a day and make your moves. I am premium member and not once have I needed to have the protection kick in.

I agree!

TheGrobe

Yes, the ability to go on vacation when it's your turn is an advantage, but that's different from timeout protection.

I've always said that the criteria should be that you've advanced any game in which it was your turn since the last time you came off vacation, even if it's now your move in some of those games again, and that it should be applied universally to both paying and non-paying members.

Mlclm

I agree it is a (small) advantage to have automatic vacation whenever you need it.

Why is it Canadians have been more vocal concerning this privilege?

Chessislife2013

Well, if you ask me vacation time is a pain in the butt. You should only play time controls which you can not time out with.
