Created my first tournament, advice on increasing signups?

I’ve had fun playing in daily tournaments so decided to try making one, Swan Passant with Wing’s Gambit theme and some cool trophies. I thought since so many tournaments are always filling up that I’d fill my smaller tournament pretty easily.

It’s been about a week and I’ve only had a couple others join. Am I being too impatient? Are there more ideal settings for beginner tournaments that attract signups?

Congrats on making your first tournament! Hope you have great success with it and get lots of people playing!

Just a few things I can suggest...

Firstly - create a post in the online tournament section of the forums. Explain the details about your tournament - the rating range, how many days , vacation or no vacation and whether it is rated or not. Make sure you add a link - most people don't want to waste time trying to search for it when a link will take them straight there.

If your game doesn't start with the normal starting position - you may want to include a diagram:

As your your tournament fills up, you may want to tell them that there are only a few places left, eg "Only 3 more places left!" Make sure you update this when you can (just edit your post)

Once it is filled you can say something along the lines of "All places have been taken and tournament has started." if you like. You can have a look at my post if you like: (I didn't include a diagram because it is a normal starting position) https://www.chess.com/forum/view/tournaments/10-day-tournament

You can also put the same information in your profile page. Go to home - settings and write information about your tournament in the "about me" section- just make sure it is at the top. That way anyone seeing your profile will learn about your tournament.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a shot!
