I'm a newbie to the site and I'm trying to join a tournament but I'm getting this message:

"You must have completed at least 5 "Online Chess" games to compete in this tournament."

When I go to "Online Chess" it shows I've play 47 games. What am I missing here? I was trying to join "Welcome Back! Tournament".

You need to play at least 5 Daily/correspondence games, not Live. Right now,  you only have two games completed.

You can play in Live tournaments though.

Join a team and play in their team match. it is fun and easy and nobody is mad at you if you lose. They are jsut happy to have you. Generally you are paired with someone of similar rating. message me for more info and some nice teams I know that would like to have you. If I am on the wrong topic...I apologize.

If you want to play Daily/correspondence tourneys then you need to play at least 5 games in that style to completion with no timeouts.

Or you can do as post 3 advised and play team matches, which will eventually count towards your 5. Also, there are Live tourneys you can play in.

hi. you play tournaments live n online, free member you can play 3 torneys live a week, premium member you play many per week. online tourneys you play many many per week, but online slow -  days so boring. you play online you should play 5 games online not live so you cant play online tourney, first finish 5 online chesse game and then join online tournry. bye

I've played in tournaments on Chess.com with my laptop. Unfortunately, that is presently out of commission. Is it possible to play, say, a "Rapid 10|0 Minute" tournament on the iPhone5 Chess.com app if you are a "Free" member, or do I just have to wait till my laptop is repaired?

The iOS app, last I knew, didn't have Live tournament access yet. You may be able to join via the phone browser then get into live on the app and it may pair you each round. I've read that it works but I'm not sure how well it works in practice.

Also a newbie, I understand playing 9 games simultaneously within specified number of days.  (1) How many players are registered, (2) how many games in total are played, and (3) how many days to complete all games, assuming no games aborted? Thanks for info.

1 is provided on the tourney home page.

2 depends on how good you are and whether or not the tourney is one round or multiple rounds. If there are only 10 players, then it is one round and you will play 18 games, 2 against each opponent. If there are more than 10, then it is a multi-round event and you will end up playing more if you finish high enough in your group. The number of players from each group moving forward is also on the tourney home page.

3. That depends on the time control, how long individual games are, and whether or not vacation is allowed.

I should also clarify that you have a certain amount of days to make your move, not to complete your games.

For an example,  I was in a tourney with 84 players, 7 days per move, initial group size of 6, with 3 players per group moving on. It started in February of 2011 and ended a few weeks ago.

Hi,

I want to play in Live tournaments, but when I go to https://www.chess.com/tournaments/ in the Upcoming Live Tournaments there is nothing to  select/click on.

For the Turn-based ones, I can click on each of them, but I want to play live.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

When I just checked there were three tourneys in the list and clicking one took me to Live with the ability to join.

Are you on v2 or v3?

I am on v3.

Well, the tourneys should show when they are coming up. Though, you can just go into Live and look them up directly too.
