ratings when withdrawing

I'm currently in a tournament that I am almost eliminated from. I am not a premium member, so I have to complete the tournament to join a lower- ranked one. If I withdraw, do I lose all of the rating points I would have lost if I had been checkmated or I resigned? Or do those games just disappear? I don't want to lose rating points, but the tournament I'm currently in is holding me back, and I don't have the money to be a premium member.

When you withdraw, you will resign each of the remaining tournament games that you withdrew from, and therefore lose the appropriate amount of points.

I think that means that in my situation I would lose points if I do the following: We are awaiting the start of the second round for which I have qualified. I do not want those games because I have too many games going on as it is. Even if we are only at the point before pairings for the second round are made, if I still withdraw, I lose the games I would have been playing?

I don't think so, it looks that just not playing you loose on time and it doesn't change your rating...I really don't get it !

I noticed that also. I think a game doesn't registered in terms of ratings unless it has been started. Anyone in the know helps us out here?

Fairly sure a game doesn't affect your rating if it's less than 4 moves - definitely with live chess at least.

I just withdrew from a tournament in which I was ready to start the second round but no games were started. My rating didn't suffer.

In online corresondance games, this is true, however, only for games not being played for a tournament.

I don't know what happened with him, but I withdrew before the next and final round had begun and it told me I couldn't because all the games were over (or something like that). Then when games were generated before any moves were played, I tried again, hoping I would have the same experience as was reported above. Unfortunately that didn't work....

Withdrew, 6 losses, minus 100+ points. And ironically it dropped me out of the range for the tournament I was trying to free up time to play!
