Tournament Game Start Rules

All tournament games must start within 3 days of the start of the tournament. If they do not, the player whose move it is will be resigned on time. They will not lose rating points, but it will affect their tournament and echess record. It will also affect their timeout %. In order to join a tournament, all players must have completed at least 5 games, have a 10% win ratio, and have a timeout % no greater than 10%. I'll be adding this to the tournaments help page shortly.

You can play in tournaments that are 14 days per move....but you must make the FIRST move within 3 days of the tournaemnt starting.

He didn't say 3 days/move, he simply said that games must begin within 3 days of the start of the tournament. [Edit: Jay is a faster typist. :)]

Sorry! that's my fault. Jay said right. I have a poor understanding of reading English :) . But I mean, when I look at 1st chess.com tournament, all tournaments are 3 days per move. It does not fix to me. I like to play 14 days per move.

probably they will change it. Logic

If you want a tournament that is 14 days per move, your best bet is to create one. :) Most players don't like 14 days per move because games take FOREVER. And if you have games that take forever, then doing a 14 day per move tournament will take even MORE FOREVER. :)  You should just create your own tournament.

I think for players who choose to play games and tournaments with longer time frames for a reason (lack of time) that "first move within 3 days" rule is a little out of place. If everybody agrees to play a 14-day tournament why force them to the first move within 3 days??

First of all, thanks again for the great site.

I entered a tournament scheduled to be started March 5th.  It started today and I do not wish to play this many games at once.  My goal is to analyze each position in each game with the goal of making my best move, so that later analysis will reveal weaknesses in my game rather than a busy schedule.

I cannot accomplish this goal with this many games and would like to withdraw from the tournament.  Please advise as to how I can accomplish this without any negative impact.

Thanks!
