Tournament withdrawl

If a person withdraws from a tournament after completing round 1 will he be considered in the Round 2 pairings and automatically be considered a loss?

I entered a couple of 1 day/no vacation tournaments and I have to be gone on Dec. 19-20.

My Round 1 games should be over before then and what I want to do is withdraw after my Round 1 games are completed.  This way I will not be in Round 2 [I think] and therefore will not timeout.

Am I right?

Assuming the round two pairings have not yet occurred because there are still outstanding games in round one I have to think that you'll be able to withdraw without penalty and you'll be excluded from the round two pairings.  I'm not 100% sure, though, so it's probably best to check with someone on staff.

This exact question was asked in a previous thread some months back, but I don't think anyone weighed in with an official response.

I've done this before, you won't be paired in round 2 and won't lose any games. So it works.

Make sure you're not so unlucky as to be the last one to finish his round 1 games :-)

Or, in even a worse stroke of luck, that you hit withdraw seconds after the last round one game ends....

Thanks for your replies.  To be safe I will withdraw when my games in Round 1 are over.  I do not think I will be the last game to do so.

In the future I will not join 1day/no vacation tournaments.  Things come up in the spur of the moment.

Thanks again!!

I just got in over my head and can't handle so many games. Can I withdraw from a tournament without hurting my rating?

Puchiko

Nope, not once it has started.
