I learnt a trick the high price tonight at my local club. I often played the Italian (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 ) and never really realised that you should not play 4.Nc3 as this is punished by 4... Nxe4 which gives Black a sronghold in the cen...

Of course, everyone has a plan but is it the best one?and can you keep it all along? In the below position, I was quite happy to disrupt black development with my rook on the 7 and 8th row and I didn't look further With hindsight I should have p...

This principle is now well known. Yet one sometimes forgets it when taken by the game With black, what would you do here ? take the b2 or f4 pawn ? ....   Here I chose to take the f4 pawn, afraid of what would happen with the rook on b1 when...

I played this game in slow time today (30' + 5'') and was quite puzzled with the turn it took. I found the whole position quite disruptive but was happy with my move on the 17th. I read a bit more afterwards but not really sure why some recommend...
