I am black in this game.

Step #1 is to stop playing all these 3 min games.

I think it was good for me to get a lot of games in (learned not to get trapped in openings, etc) but now it's time for deeper 1-2 move tactics.

I am posting my 15 mins. games in this thead.  Would love any feedback.

15 mins is still too fast for you, and me, I fear!

Play correspondence or 45 | 45. My rating went from 1300 to 1400 in a month simply by moving from 15 | 10 to 45 | 45.

Your profile is similar to mine - way low for Blitz/Bullet compared to standard. Hence it seems logical the slower we go, the better we will get!

Many 45 | 45 players play as if they are playing blitz and end up with over 50 mins on their clock at the end, while I end up with only a few minutes left.

Use all your time to think through every possibility for every move and it's bound to give you an edge against equal opposition who don't think things through.

don't quit blitz if you want to get to 1400. :D

all you need to do is analyze your games yourself and find errors and you will improve

adumbrate

no.  play as much blitz as possible

JackOfAllHobbies

I've still been playing blitz.  I will post all 15 min games here.

JackOfAllHobbies

I will now be posting at least one 15 min game a day.

This game, I played the Fried Liver, and caused the opponent to blunder/resign.  Here, all those pointless 3 min. blitz games paid off.

In the game you just posted up until c4 your moves seemed reasonable , c4 while makes sense you gain space and center , but you also create potential weaknesses and block your bishop . I think your approach should  be to develop rooks and if your opponent tries to open the position let him because your development advantage will make you better off . he has made many  many pawn moves so you will definitely be able to focus on a weakness later , and both of his flanks are somewhat exposed so castling is an issue for him , esp on the kingside . You let him close the position and win a pawn which were both the mistakes , you want to open the position to exploit his development . after that there were mutual mistakes by both sides and I dont think it is worth analysing because it looks like time was a factor .

Thanks for your time.  It's funny, b/c c4 was an uncharacteristic move for me.   It felt good to grab so much center space, but normally, I would move my rooks into the center before doing that.  I tihnk this time, I had no idea which file to place them on, so I delayed developing them.  I am terrible at advancing pawns other than my middle two.  So, it's funny you picked up on this.  I agree that it blocks in my bishop.

I did not want to close the position why?  B/c I was castled and he was not?  I wanted to open up the center with some exhange?

Time was not a factor.  15 mins game with at least 7 mins left.

pretty much because he has trouble castling thats why  , he can try castling queenside but i think white is better because you control the center and blacks 3 castle pawns are advanced , Still though i think it will be a decent game with white being better(how much better I am not sure but nothing winning)  after 0-0-0  his pawns are already advanced on the queenside so thats why im not sure how much better white is . mainly your center makes you better in that case only his DSB is "good"

Black should have played 9...0-0!. The queen cannot capture the knight because Rf8-Re8 pins the queen. Black stands better.

The queen should remain on d8 in order to support d5.

Oh, for game 1?   Right, if white took the trap, I would then trade knight and rook for black Queen.  Seems even.  9 vs 8.

9    ..O-O

10. QxNe4  Re8

Another 15 mins game.  I managed to beat a 1380 !!
I have a question on move #18.   Any other comments are greatly appreciated.

blitzcopter

I highly recommend you focus more on the games you lost.

And 15|10 is pretty reasonable; I don't feel like it's easy to find 45-minute games.

Aha, a sensible self-improvement thread! Normally it's "want to get from 1300 to 2800"... well done on setting realistic achievable goals

JackOfAllHobbies

I will post every 15min game I play.

Ok, here is a game I just lost.

I happened to be reading about how to defend against English, since I have no idea about it.

I have THREE questions posted inline.

Keep playing longer games it really helps. Although in 15 min you shouldn't be blundering move 7 :)

Tough spot in move 10 and someone higher rated please quote me in this because I'd like to hear your two cents.

Yes we stop the posibility of castling however this does create an open file for his rook to attack our king.

I'm actually not sure if trading off our bishop for his knight is a good idea. Yes our bishop is relatively good and his knight is on the side rank but the knight pair alongside the open file for the rook could be pretty deadly.

I'm not so sure about 14. f5 since it weakens your kings defence significantly and strengthens the threat of his lsb. which leads to this ugly pin.

You played alright and are definitely going the right way when approaching your game. Reviewing these games and looking for advice will hopefully lead to your rating jump up in the near future.

I know this sounds stupid but make sure you're really concentrating and take your time. Maybe play 15/10 and have that increment for a bit more security. Missing pawn takes for about 3 moves isn't ideal when playing "standard" let alone any time varient :)

Anyway best of luck and keep fighting, maybe we can have a game sometime?

If you just hang a piece randomly your game can't really be productively analysed. Stop doing that and your rating will go up.
