Chess Nazis

The Chess Nazi movement is growing to include online chess. They are not content to their normal OTB bigotry anymore. They have moved passed saying that your pieces are not the right type, your board is not the right color, your rating isn’t high enough, your pieces need to be triple weighted and or course the digital verses the analog clock argument, no now they are complaining about screen names. I had a Chess Nazi tell me he could not play me because of my screen name. He could not stand to play a POPINJAY. Thanks for listening to my rants. Pop

I hope someone appreciates my grammatical nerdiness.

Also, people are crazy.

I thought this thread is about Klaus Junge or Emil Diemer.

Well, it should be (Klaus Junge was a genius).

Perhaps this person was making an unwarranted association between your screen name and your personality?

(Godwin's Law hasn't come up in quite a while - not since  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/those-who-refuse-to-resign-when-they-are-completely-lost and the Alekhine question.)

But there is an association, I am vain but what does that have to do with chess.

Don't you think it's a bit much associating people with Nazi's just because they won't play you at chess or make ridiculous comments?

A definition of a POPINJAY is "a vain and talkative person (chatters like a parrot)". Many (but by no means all) chess players - like most fishermen - prefer quietude when playing, and find chat distracting. One of the strengths of these forums is that people can reveal their character openly. This will attract some chess.com members to challenge them to play chess - but will repel others.

We all exercise personal choice in whom we play against, whom we chat with or whom we block. It is inaccurate to classify an individual as totalitarian simply on the basis of their personal choices. If they tried to persuade lots of others not to play you - or if they publically vilified you, then your characterisation of them would stand up. You're a chess narcissus.

Interesting proposal. But triple weighted pieces whats the point in that ? It only make it harder to lift up. The only way you could get a advantagein out of that is if you played someone so weak they could not lift the pieces up and they are forced to resign by the Shear weight of the pieces. Laughing

First of all Art, wow, this forum was meant as satire, (the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc..), I am sorry to cause a personal reaction from you, it was not my intention. A Chess Nazi, in my opiniun, is someone who believes that chess should be played in one way and cannot be changed i.e., color, size and the shape of the pieces.

Because of the seriousness of your comment I will now have to label you as

Artfizz the Chess Curmudgeon

Wear it well my friend, wear it well.

Rich, you're on the right track. A triple-weighted king would be almost impossible for someone to knock over (except for an athlete or someone who regularly works out), thus preventing your opponent from resigning.

Yeah that's what I thought, like John Regis would knock the King over with just a finger even triple weighted !

But, artfizz, in posting that (above), aren't you also participating in acquiring the same label - of popinjay?  by vainly presuming all at this site want to see your contributions on this site?     looking at the number of your contributions to this site, and comparing it to Popinjay's contributions, makes one wonder who is the real popinjay.

by comparison, she seems downright taciturn.

While thinking on it, aren't we all a little like popinjays - given the definition above. Wink    maybe that is part of being human.
