Swearing at someone in chat

Sort:
pearlywaterfall

is this acceptable? Is this controlled by anyone?

I got ***************** swearing at me. I remember it was something about "f*** piece of shit"... and then he disabled chat. I am confused...do not know what to think about that....should I laugh? I just wanted to know is it common here?

Lawdoginator

It's really not a huge problem here. You may go months without any of that. Disabling chat is usually sufficient.

He was losing? thus is probably a bad loser! when he should learn from his mistakes.

Although allowing your king to get trapped behind your own pawns is a mistake and he was probably well annoyed with himself, but no excuse!

GatheredDust

Report and block him.

By the way, the staff usually frowns upon naming names. Just a heads up.

Disable chat and block the offender. You can't controll what others do to you. For example, one day a playerblundered a Queen against me in Live, called me "lucky bastard" and did not make a move, waiting for his clock (which had over 5 minutes) to run out of time. The advice I was given was to block the Troll, so block him and you won't have to stand his nonesenses again.

Nothing wrong with name and shame in my opinion, sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. Worked for the UK riots!

I also think naming and shaming is a right thing to do as everyone should take the responsibility for their actions. I respect every potential opponent and expect the same from other players.

Thank you for all your replies.

I have a bad luck playing with  members very sensitive when they are losing the queen, he must have been one of them... :D

Right enough...need to start using "block" option

Puchiko

The only way to fight this is by reporting the offenders.

What's the big deal? If you don't want to talk to someone, turn your chat off for the rest of the game. There are much bigger problems than "offensive language."

Only 5 minutes? I've had to wait 35 or more on several occasions! Usually they don't say anything though, they just sit and wait 30-60 minutes for their time to run out instead of resigning

I normally play blitz games, mostly 5 or 5+2 games, so 5 minutes is almost a full game. I hope I never face one of these players in a Long game.

I just played a player a few hundred points above me who did not take his own queen blunder very well at all. Well...I did tantalize him during the rematch, which I lost haha, but now it seems I have been "kicked" from live chess. Frustrating...hope that wears off.
