Complete crap. There has been an ongoing and light media blaze around the internet in regards to cookies and other potential for spying on your personal...hobbies. Basically it is saying, "Hey, you are being looked at. Here is a program that you can use and purchase later!"

Complete crap, ignore it.

thanks for noticing.does chess.com allow this add to be shown?do they take such ads?

Phylar

That is an excellent question and one that I cannot answer. If it was an ad that led to a legit piece of software, then there is very little reason for them to not take it. However, if you explain your point to them through the ticket system or even on the help and support area of the forums, then they might see where you are coming from.

Remember to post a link to the screenshot you took (this topic would likely do just fine for that).

You may have spyware and/or a virus on your PC is what it may mean.

I doubt very much the popup has anything whatsoever to do with chess.com.  It may be a low level, fairly benign infection but clicking the link offered could make it a serious threat to your PC (and others that you're in contact with imo).

a) you could download and run free SUPERAntispyware (great for cleaning out stubborn cookies and sometimes catches a nasty virus)

b) you could make a 'rescue disc' (I find Avira's works well), and boot from that to scan for viruses;

There is also this (which didn't cross my mind for some magical reason...I work in IT lol). There is the potential for an infection. I agree with Avira and may suggest installing the free version of Avast! as it works better than most pay-to-use software out there.

thank you sftac and phylar.i never click on these things.

i think having a virus is more likely so i just download that free antispyware and see what happens.thank you again.
