By tablebase, the problem is sound. K+2N v K+N is usually a draw, unless the king is already trapped in a corner and the N can't save it. K+3N v K or K+3N v K+N is generally a win. With the third knight, there exist mating patterns on the edge of the board - which can be forced, along with the standard corner one.
