The 2025 Summer season of the Silverdale Chess Club is wrapping up with a

valuable lecture on one of the hottest openings on the chessboard today.

Tap into the Power of the Jobava London with Professor Brandon Hickey

Our very own Brandon Hickey will step up to the demo board and present an easy-to-grasp strategy and power-packed tactical overview of the Jobava London System, an opening where one wrong move can mean a decisive win or loss, depending on who is paying the closest attention.

The proponents of this opening system are many and include GM Magnus Carlsen, GM Levon Aronian, GM Simon Williams, the notorious GM Hans Neimann, and players who have developed their own anti-Jobav London system against the opening, namely GM Hikaru Nakamura.

Other surprise opening specialists may be on board to impart their pet secrets in this concise “back-to-school” session!

St. Louis Sinquefield Cup Showing the Leader Can Lead Without Wins

GM Fabiano Caruana continues to lead the 2025 Sinquefield Cup after, for the first time this year, a round of all draws. GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda came closest to winning against World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju.

The event has seen draws in Caruana vs. GM Wesley So, GM Alireza Firouzja vs. GM Levon Aronian, GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave vs. GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, and GM Sam Sevian vs. GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov.

The 2025 Sinquefield Cup, is taking place from August 18 to 28 in St. Louis, and is the last leg and final classical event before the Final of the 2025 Grand Chess Tour. It is a single round-robin with 10 players with a time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus a 30-second increment starting on move one. It features a $350,000 prize fund.

Summer 2025 is "Summer of Levon" in Rapid & Blitz

Levon Aronian has already competed and won the 2025 Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz, the final event of the 2025 Grand Chess Tour, which took place prior to the Sinquefield Cup. He won the tournament with two rounds to spare, securing the title and a significant portion of the tour's prize money. [SCC]
