Hello everyone and thank you for being here. happy.png

Today in this blog post I will be explaining how to improve your bullet chess with 10 simple steps.

1.

Memorizing Openings.

Bullet is about time, (until a certain level at least) so how to gain a great time advantage then have a prepared opening. But how much to you have to memorize and what lines and opening should I memorize? Well here is the answer. First you don't have to remember the whole opening you just have to remember the first 5-7 moves and you want to pull these moves quickly so you get a time advantage and have a hint of what your actually doing and not moving blindly. Second, it's all up to you what opening you would like to memorize, though be warned that if you go for a risky opening it can go either way.

E.g (remember the whole purpose of memorizing these openings is to give you a time advantage at the start, so if their are a couple blunders it due to the speed and how dangerous you are playing.

Dangerous opening:

3 move check mate

gambits

traps

And although the rewards can be great, you are also have to suffer humiliating defeats, also as you climb up the rating ladder your opponents are a lot stronger and less likely to fall for simple tricks and you will suffer many defeats.

Safe openings:

London system

Queens gambit

Here you can produce these moves in seconds or even mili-seconds and it is a solid opening meaning you are a lot less likely to get tricked and you can spent speed developing, this way it is easier for you to get a grasp of bullet instead of random moving.
2.
Pre-moves

Pre-Moves are a special feature of chess.com where you can make a move before its your turn and then as soon as they move your (pre-move) will register in a matter of 0.1 seconds, so you can do 10 pre-moves for each second!

How to enable pre-moves?

Okay, so you want to go to you chess.com settings, there you will select live chess, one of the options will be pre-moves, turn it on.

3.

Push for the Win

In bullet you have two friends, the clock and blindness, so if you lost a queen or a rook in the first 30 seconds, do not worry about losing, chances are you will end up winning! When time gets low you want to premove and try to rush your opponent through everything at your opponents king, checks are the best as they are hard to premove against so your bound to knock down your opponent a couple of seconds! Plus in bullet you won't be shamed apon for pushing for a win so, go get that win!

4.

How to Use Each Piece

Pawn: Pawns are questionably your most valuable piece in bullet, they are your structure, they are your chance of winning when you're losing. In the opening create a strong structure, in the middle game make sure you are not going to be undermined and in the endgame rush them towards victory!

Rook: In my opinion rook is the most useless piece in bullet, it takes a long time to get out and make active, and is nowhere as tricky as the knights and bishops, so to successfully make full use of these powerhouses use them as pawn pushers protecting the pawn on her transformation into a queen.

Knight: Fisher said the Bishop was probably slightly more valuable than the knight but in bullet it is switched,  knights are very tricky pieces and it becomes very hard to keep track of during time trouble. So try to preserve your knights and get as many checks as you can you might get a fork in!

Bishop: Bishops are good pieces to get out at the start of the game, they can also make a very strong force when connected with pawns, you want to use, your pawns and bishops to make a strong opening!

King: The King is useless until the endgame, in the endgame you just want to send the bad boy up the board to do as much as he can, you can almost forget that he is the piece to protect and let him lead the charge.

Queen: The queen a powerful piece and a weak one, you bring it out to early and you can risk losing it, bring it out to late it will have nothing to do, in the middle game you want to move it in a place where it is ready to strike, a queen is probably the best piece if you want to launch an attack on the king so make sure it always has a strong route to the king!

5.

What to do in the Middle Game

The middle game is in my opinion the time to use all the time and make the endgame the best as possible for you. You can use it to launch and attack at their king or just slow the game down so you can have a intense endgame it is all up to you! The best is try to play the middle game for 20-30 seconds so you can have a quick endgame and hopefully zugzwang your opponent!

In basic terms the middle term is probably the place you want to spend most time in but do the least in!

6.

How to Survive a Losing Endgame

Endgames are the most stressful and action packed part of the game in bullet! So how do you survive the endgame when your losing?

Well I will show you by diagrams each one will show how to survive with each piece!

NOTE THAT MANY OF THESE WILL BE BASED OF BLUNDERS AND YOU CAN EXPECT MOST OF WHAT IS IN THE CHAPTER IN RATINGS FROM <1600

Pawn:

Rook:

Knight:

Bishop:

King:

Queen:

7.

How to Play Properly

I would say from experience that roughly players that are <1200 tend to sac everything to win on the clock then from 1300-1500, people will sac at 20 seconds left, but at a higher level >1600 sacing to win on time only occurs at the final seconds. So if you really want to improve I suggest even if your <1200 to just focus on the game move quickly and as accurately as you can! Bullet is about speed play, so sacing at the final second is fine but when it is at 10 seconds plus, just try to play and attempt cheap tricks rather than sacing!

8.

How to get out of your Rating

IF YOU ARE 1500+ YOU CAN SKIP THIS CHAPTER AS IT ONLY GOES UP TO 1400+

>800: At this level (as said earlier) bullet is mainly sacs so if you want to get out of that level just try to play as best as you can without sacing, and when your opponent gives you all their pieces for free, you will be able to win easily with a large piece advantage.

800-1200: In this rating range your best bet is tactics, try to find the most common ones and try make the position into your tactic e.g back-rank mate, forks, pins and so on.

1200-1400: At this level there will be a lot of people actually playing so cheap tricks are a lot less likely to occur, (though they still will occur.) your best bet is just to play as accurately as you can and as quick as you can.

9.

Using chess.com's Tools to Improve Speed

Chess.com probably has the best tools to improve your bullet skill here are which tools to use and why they will improve your skill.

Puzzle Rush: Puzzle rush is a great way to improve your skill, with a time limit and trying to attempt as many puzzles as you can! The timer makes you aware of your time and stress's you to get in those last puzzles in! Also many of the puzzles require to move a piece all the way from one side of the board to the other side, this will improve your vision in-game and the timer gives you the feel of the 1 minute you get in the game.

Puzzle Battle: Puzzle battle is bound to improve your skill, just like the reasons about puzzle battle, except you are versing someone in puzzle battle and this gives you that adrenaline you need in bullet that concentration and accurate yet quick play!

Vision: Vision improves how fast your mouse speed and it shows how fast you can look over the whole board, a skill well needed in bullet!

10.

The Actual Importance of Bullet

A lot of people I know shame bullet, as 'not chess' 'a waste of time' 'a bad variant' but I disagree, bullet actually improves your blitz, if gives you the ability of seeing your opponents threats quickly and understanding what they are attempting to do! The ability to be able to analyse a position in light depth in a couple seconds is amazing, you will know what to do what they are doing, of course blunders and mistakes are a lot more common in bullet then other time control, but that doesn't mean anything, the higher level of bullet you go the more accurate play is! When you are able to play three games of bullet without any mistakes or blunders, I would say you were an improved player!

Thank you to everyone who read this post! I really appreciate, if you could leave your feedback in the comments I would appreciate that and which chapter (1-10) you found the best would be great!

If you want to watch bullet you can go to my new channel and I will be posting monthly bullet videos.

There will be the same types of posts for Blitz and Rapid, so if you want to see one before the other say in the comments below which one you want to see!

Thank you for taking the time to reading, good luck with your bullet rating and have a nice day!

Some things I say will not work for everyone and some people may disagree, this is all just a perspective of a way to improve through my eyes.
