Continued from the last thread. Here are 5 more positions (Cause I really can't find anymore lol): 1. Black has just played Bc5 in the Blackburne-Shilling Gambit, stabilizing the center. But here comes an unexpected counter shot by white: 2. In the main line Neo-grunfeld, white just played 7.Nc3, developing a knight. However, this is an inaccuracy that allows black to equalize immediately... 3. In this london, white just played Nxd5, "centralizing" the knight and capturing back the pawn. However, this leads to losing a piece: 4. Black just played b6 to defend his knight. However, this allows a tactic by white: 5. In this mainline exchange Caro-Kann, Black just played Bd6 to stabilize the center. But does it really?

Yeah he played over 7000 games of blitz. So enjoy the game. So there are nice people in chess and I'm his 6000th lost
And yes it is my first. And I hit 1k games on blitz.
I was playing black, and i was faced with 1.b3, the move itself is not so bad, but i knew that i was going to be in an aggressive game and had to avoid all the tricks. if i missed any parts, just let me know and i can help answer
Hello, I thought I’d just pull a German battleship. After 9. Re1, who do you think stands better? Or is it equal? Explain why.

I thought it would be less confusing if we had the results in one place. Please let me know if I missed a game This post will be updated once a day to reflect the newest results. Link to bracket: https://challonge.com/8r62v8ze (I multiplied the scores by 10 because this site wouldn't let me put 1.5-0.5 as a final score) -1 points = Withdrawal/Forfeit Last updated: 3/28/2022 (17:54 PDT)

Congratulations to everyone that advanced to round 2 of the B&M Championship! We are now in the “Sweet Sixteen” section of the brackets, if you will meaning there are sixteen players remaining. Round 1 was pretty exciting with multiple upsets over high-rated players! Even better, out of sixteen games that were to be played, only ONE wasn’t negotiated in time. This is great, as y’all made sure t negotiate in the allotted time frame and got fifteen games done. New seeding is below, however for round 2 I will be using brackets to determine pairings. As always you will have until next Saturday (March 26) to play a 15/10 game with your opponent. Colors are also specified below. Seeding 1. @little_guinea_pig 2. @TheSwissPhoenix 3. @Trophies100 4. @chessplayer109485 5. @ninjaswat 6. @chesswithnickolay 7. @colorfulcake 8. @tetrafishygm2 9. @kowarenai 10. @the_fish_lair 11. @fayez58 12. @snow 13. @chr0me_pl8ted_st0vepipe 14. @lazydog24 15. @KingMonkey400 16. @chaotikitat Pairings 1. @little_guinea_pig (black) vs. 17. @chr0me_pl8ted_st0vepipe 8. @tetrafishygm2 (black) vs. 9. @kowarenai 4. @chessplayer109485 (white) vs. 20. @kingmonkey400 5. @ninjaswat (black) vs. 21. @chaotikitat 2. @theswissphoenix (black) vs. 15. @snow 7. @colorfulcake (white) vs. 10. @the_fish_lair 3. @trophies100 (white) vs. 19. @lazydog24 6. @chesswithnickolay (black) vs. 11. @fayez58

I literally have finished the entire newsletter for March/April. It was originally supposed to be posted in February when I got all of the material, but I got busy. All I need now is for someone to edit it for grammar mistakes, then I can get that posted. Any volunteers?

This is a position from one of my games as black against the Smith-Morra. White has just played 23. Nxg6, capturing the light-squared bishop. Of course, black has to recapture, but the question is: Which pawn do you take with? Explain which pawn you would take with and why. (Also, this post is more directed to beginner/intermediate players, but it's okay if you're higher-rated.)

educational post #1 for the month so I don't get demoted to coord and become sad. idk how educational this is, but hopefully someone can learn something from this (and ofc because this is educational this will get 3 comments and nobody will care at all what so ever)
This was a fun tournament for sure. I was on fire (kinda), playing quite solidly and beating LGP and several others in fast-paced, intense games. Here's a recap of some fantastic moves in these games. Here, white missed an absolutely brilliant mating sequence. Can you find it? Black has already slowly built up a huge advantage, but after Rxd5 he is won. Can you find the nail in the coffin? Black's d-pawn is his most vital asset and it finally seems like white has stopped it in its tracks. Which strong move proves otherwise? Black seems to be defending well in the Semi-Slav Defense. Which move will instantly win material? Black has a rook for a knight, but white has a powerful attack. Show that this attack is not an illusion and will lead to mate. White has played a4!?, and it seems like black can't hold on any longer. Find the only way to continue defending. It seems like white is finally able to crack black's defenses in the Sicilian Dragon. Show that this is not the case, and black can hold on to a slight advantage. It seems that white cannot hold on to his queenside pawns any longer. Find a move that can reassert his dominance in the center. (bonus: a game I played against fox after the tournament since we didn't get to play each other) Black has gobbled up 4 of white's pawns. Show that in his greediness he has failed to defend.

Slav and semi slav players don’t deserve to win their games You should punish Slav and semi Slav players by exchanging on d5 and drawing

Dear 2000, I'm sorry I don't give you people enough credit for the awesome games you guys have. I know realize that you people are some awesome people, and that you people can think way smarter than me and think faster. I realized this after my game with the Top Chess.com Chess Engine (3200 elo) It took me 5 hours to finish that game, I was very devoted to it, and I know realize that It's hard thinking like a 2000, therefore it is hard being a 2000. I may only be a 1500 elo, and that I think I'm a champion of chess players, but no, You people our the true champions! Thank you!

I was wondering if the style of chess you play will have an impact on the opening you play? As I play more games, I feel a lot less stressed, when I play a defensive style of game. I'm still terrible, but I was wondering as I explore openings, if there is a particular group of openings for more defensive closed style of players? And I'm sure this question has been posed a hundred or more times in the past. I just feel that I need to be sure that the openings I'm looking at fit my style of play moving forward. Thanks in advance for any insight, advice, etc.

How fast do yall think I can reach 1300?

Happy April Fools Day! April 1, 2025: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play chess well is a sign of a wasted life.” -Paul Morphy, GM. (Do you think he stole this quote from his dad who shamed him into quitting chess?)
