Dear all, The TML 2010 for larger teams is currently registering the teams for the 2010 season. If your team is over 250 members, you have read all the tournament rules and you want to participate in the most exigent and competitive tournament, then you can register it here: TM LEAGUE 2010 REGISTRATION (do not forget to join the Head-Quarters!) TOURNAMENT RULES OFFICIAL RULES OF THE TM LEAGUE 2009 (these are for last season but they will be pretty similar to those) NOTE! TML is not the same as TMC, if your team is under 250 members and want to participate in the Team Match Championships please keep track of this group and a forum for registration will be created pretty soon!
Here are the pairings for the Grand Final and 3rd Place matches. The team on the left must challenge the team on the right by the date shown. The match must be accepted within 2 days of the challenge issued, and start within 5 days. Matches should be 5+ players, open rating range, 2 simultaneous games. The victor of each match and final standings positions will be declared as soon as the team's score exceeds the number of players in the match, or on July 20, 2010 if not decided by them. At present we have either 21 or 22 teams, depending on whether TEAM TOSHKENT is real or not. This will result in the following structure. Round 1, 7 groups of 3 (one group with 4), 2 advance. The top two non-qualifying teams with the highest match score, with game differential as tiebreak, also advance. This gives 16 teams to round 2. Round 2, 4 groups of 4, 2 advance. Round 3, 2 groups of 4, 2 advance. Round 4, 1 group of 4, yielding 1st-4th place. There are some suggestions about for rule changes for the 2010 season. I reserve the right as admin to set the rules as necessary to make the championships work smoothly, but it is a good thing to consider suggestions and requests from the teams. Ultimately teams will have to agree to the next season's rules before it can begin. I would like to set a couple of ground rules for the discussion. This is not the place to discuss any past incidents! Continuing to hammer on past actions of teams or individuals (actual or suspected) is inappropriate. It could constitute harassing under the site terms of service. Any rules for a competition of this type must be verifiable. It must be possible to determine if the rule is actually violated. Circumstantial evidence is insufficient. When possible, settle it on the board. This is a chess competition, not a "prove your opponents broke a rule" competition. Maybe we can come up with an element to the tournament that rewards teams that get all the way through without attempting to use the rules as a weapon.

chess-kebabs identified a need for a competition that bridged the gap for mid range groups. We have this group for 20-250 and the TM league for 250+ My suggestion: I have created a tournament that will cater for teams 250-700. It would be for 32 groups / teams and would work on a knockout basis. What do you think? Join this group if you think it would be good. http://www.chess.com/groups/home/team-match-international

Last year I entered my team in this championships under the impression that it was for smaller groups ... then of course once registered teams were setting about recruiting beyond a joke. My team (adults only) then got kicked out of the first round because we had a small well out ranked team compared to the teams in our "section" I noticed thegab has said the same thing as I am saying but due to my being blocked I cannot comment on his thread ... however I do want to ask is this going to be an issue this time round and is there any kind of limit on team sizes???

It seems quite unfair, for from what I understood this league was for small groups, of around 100 players, though as the competition went on, a lot of groups started to recruit like Hell, so when round 2 came, many groups had around or over 300 players, & those groups that stayed in the limit range of the rules found themselves heavily out matched, which I find very sad, as it breaks the spirit of fairness, sort of like David & Goliah, groups recruiting in numbers & hardly know the members of their own groups, in the soul goal " TO WIN BY ANY MEANS " . What happened to the idea, that a group was for fun, friendship, learning together....etc? this has been a good competition until certain groups bent the rules, it's a real pity, & a sure sign of greed, which surely would make one think twice, if not, just forget the idea of fair competition, for there's no fun in winning by huge numbers, one might aswell use a chess engine if winning by any means is ones aim. I wish the rest of yous the best of fun, but most of the enjoyment has already been destroyed, why bother with another team event, if all ends in this way, it's probally better just sticking to normal team matches, that way nobody is cheating no one at all, thank yous for your time & I hope that the ones involved in the deception are proud of themselves, for yous set a very bad example of what chess is about, yo!
