I am the main Admin for team channel islands and I am particularly proud that our small islands will play for the first time in division 1 this year. All our opponents have massively bigger populations than we do and I suspect we will struggle. None the less I refer to our team as "the mouse that roared". This pride caused me to do some research across all five divisions. My main source was the census figures of 2022, but where these were not available I took the figures from the nearest year possible. I will share these statistics in a subsequent post. I mistakenly believed we had the smallest population with 170000 people but discovered three teams had smaller populations. Isle of Man with 85000, Shetland with 22986 and Inverness with 83289. As you would expect the first two play in division 5, but full credit to Inverness who ply their trade in division 2, another roaring mouse. Division 3 is full of sleeping giants, where 8 teams have more than a million people and the other two are pretty close. My apologies to Birmingham for pointing out that they play in Division 5 with a population of over a million people, as do Leinster. The point about Birmingham though is that it is not a county. It is a city in the west midlands authority. Should they decide to rebrand as a county team they would add Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, and Wolverhampton to their ranks. Now that would be a force to be reckoned with. I'm sure others will spot other interesting facts amongst the statistics and I would be interested in other observations.

Hello all, The 2024 Cup is now open for registration. As last year, the event will start in August 2023. Registration will close on July 19th. In addition the clubs already registered for the cup will be automatically entered into the 2024 Open league set to start in December. So if you are already one of the teams in the CC24 cup there is no need to register again for the Open League CC24. Registration for the teams so far not registered must take place no later than 30 November. I think we will have between 40 and 46 entries so... The last 16 in the 2023 cup will get a bye to round 2. Depending on entries further byes might be granted to teams by using their finishing position in the 2022 league table. The remaining teams will enter in round 1. Round 1 due to start on August 7th 2023. The minimum number of players per matches will remain the same as last year. In round one the minimum will be 6. In all other rounds the minimum will be 8. Once a player plays for a team in the 2024 Cup that will be their designated team for all competitions in 2024 including the rated limited leagues eg U1600. Well it looks like we have all our champions in all Divisions confirmed. I would like to thank all the admins and players from all participating teams for making this year's league the most competitive ever.  Kent are crowned as Champions in Division 1 after winning the epic 48 board match with Lanarkshire. Kent have also done the double over Lanarkshire by reaching the Cup Final with Inverness. Hard luck Lanarkshire but massive congratulations to Kent Checkmates on a fantastic Season for them. In the other divisions it was a 100% record of wins in every Division. Many congratulations to: Tayside Fife & Stirlingshire (Division 2); Channel Islands (Division 3); Inverness CC (Division 4); Cefn Gwlad Cymru (Division 5). All League Tables & Results can be found by following this CC24 LINK. Participation in matches in all Divisions was fantastic, with the Kent Lanarkshire clash fielding 48 boards. @Tricky_Dicky has produced the following stats for all teams. We are looking very healthy indeed. Roll on CC25!
