Just like the cascade mountain range in the pacific north west, the board is massive (14 by 14 board), as well as the amount of pieces, pawns promote on the 5th rank, there is many options for openings, you can use pieces that you have captured from your opponent, and the goal is to checkmate your opponent. Pieces like amazons (queen and knight) are powerful, and others require good thinking (like the grasshopper, it has poor defense to make up for it's good attack moves). There are many unique pieces to use, and many possibilities. Can you checkmate the opponent and win cascade chess? Rules: Crazyhouse, Pawn promotion Id's are ABCEFGHIJLNOQRS, Replace archbishops with hawks and the Promotion rank is 5

I’ve been noticing that while many people submit variants on VW, people also do this on Chess.com forums. CGA checks those, and also Variants World ones. But this forum is to ask one simple question: why are there to ways to submit these anyway?
I came up with a new game rule idea called tag. The objective of the game is either to win by checkmate or keep the other player "it" for 5 turns (5 of their moves). I'll provide a more detailed explanation. Rules: The beginning of the game is normal until the first capture. After the first capture, the player who's piece got captured is "it". Once a player is "it", they must tag the other player in the next 5 moves by capturing one of their pieces. If a player fails to capture one of the other player's piece after 5 moves, they are checkmate. Also, if a player tags the other player and then manages to capture another one of their pieces again (in the next 5 moves/before they become it), the countdown (5 moves) does not reset. Technicalities: This game would play where "in order to checkmate, you must capture the king (or of course keep the other player "it" for 5 moves)", otherwise known as capture the king or regicide. Players also are not forced to capture on the fifth move (unlike how giveaway would force), rather, the game would end immediately after if they do not do this (similar to the bare piece rule). In addition, the amount of turns before checkmate from being it could be customized if somehow it got involved in a different map (i.e. the number could be 8 instead of 5). Note: In standard chess, it should be paired with the bare piece rule. Strategy: Generally, try to avoid the first capture in a series of trade. If recapture is balanced, then you will be "it" in the end. Also, if you manage to keep an opponent "it" for 5 turns, you can move a piece out of the way (of your opponents capture choices) so that they may be "forced" to capture with a more valuable piece or in a way that messes up their position. If you are "it" your best choice may be to spend effort trying to trap a minor piece or build a pawn chain that will result in your opponent being "it". Or you could buy time with a trade. Extra: In 3 or 4 player (or perhaps in 2 player also with a good position) there could be a 'no tagback' option so you cannot tag whoever tagged you, perhaps along with a timer before players can tagback. I have an example game here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/141229270357

Uhh I found that the color system is useless, because the only 3 results of all the variants are Accepted,Declined, and PR,so why not we just do like that? Helios Likely Result: Declined Reason: Not mean to,but NCV with a such complex mechanism(promote and sac the grasshoppers to the zombie or just stalement opponent)is not always good;what's more, atomic is a quite difficult gamerule to learn and play well - or just after some days, the creator will self-decline lol

What if you are considered to be a actually decent variant creator, you could receive "PRO MODE" from the moderators. If and only if you have pro mode you can use non-QBRNPK pieces, atomic/giveaway modes, and other overused features. This would cut down dramatically on "UpGrAdEd ChEsS" and "lay down 50 Amazons and call it a variant". Just a thought.

I wanted to place my pawn or ferz on the f7 square, blocking the check of the xiangqi horse on f8, but the site didn't let me, so I lost the game in the next move. I wonder why that is. Could you please help me? If you find that my complaint is justified, please give me back my lost rating.

1. Custom Variant- Double Chess 960- where White has a different starting position from Black. Simple- Same chessboard, same pieces and same rules as Chess 960. That's a possible combination of 960x960=921,600. The Ultimate Chess Complication.2. Custom Clock- Repeating Time- I got the idea from Chronos and it's called Final Delay. My Idea is from 1 to 30 seconds.example: repeating 5 sec or 10 sec or 15 sec or 30 sec- repeating and does not accumulate. The player thinks, makes a move before time runs out and the time goes back to what was set initially. The game will continue until Checkmate, 3-Fold Repetition, 50-Move Rule, Resignation, Draw Offer and of course Time Runs Out.

I have a new piece idea, and I think it is fitting to call it the admiral (slightly better than a general or king). I have some variant ideas that may work better with this piece, and I'm sure that other players would be able to use the piece to make cool custom variants. The admiral would take either one (moves like a king) two king movements (players can choose). It cannot travel over a wall, or another piece, similar to the Xiangqi horse. It can still capture pieces normally, by moving onto a square occupied by another piece.

Post for the previous month's vote:https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/vote-for-aprils-golden-variants-2025 Not sure on what some of the terms in this post mean? Have any other questions? See any typos? Feel free to ask and comment below! (Scroll down to the start of the bold text if you want to know how to vote without reading my entire post 😀) Hello Custom Variants community! May is coming soon, and it's time for the month's Golden Variant vote again! After last month's Golden Variant post, we received 200+ votes and gained 1000+ members, all of whom I'd like to welcome to the club. Even as we have been inconsistent with getting variant "verdicts" out in the past few weeks, the club activity hopefully shows continued interest in our shared passion for variant creation! Around 3 weeks ago, we announced the April 2025 update for the Variants server; if you haven't seen the announcement yet, please check that out. Starting this month, variants which were designated "hidden" after that update will start receiving some more dedicated attention in the Golden Variant cycle, which aligns with the original goal of Golden Variant and it's predecessor, Variant of the Week. Also check out the announcement in the Variants club for the planned eventual move of all gamerule variants (excluding Bughouse, which will stay on the Live server, per Chess.com Staff) to the main Variants server. For any questions regarding this update, please write in the comments of the announcement; CGAs currently do not have involvement in this project and so we cannot answer your questions accurately. To end things off again as usual for Golden Variant announcement posts, here's the current CGA stats for at the time of the writing of this post: There are currently 61 posts Under Review (UR) 32 (54.24%) of those posts are NCVs, and 29 (45.76%) of those posts are WoFs 10 of the currently UR posts were posted in the last 7 days The CGAs and NCV Testers have finished reviewing 4 variants in the last 7 days (sorry); in the last 14 days, they have finished reviewing 16 variants. This month's format: 5 arenas, starting in May at 5 PM PST on Fridays / 0 UTC on Saturdays, including: 1 "Golden Variant All Week" arena on May 2 of the winner of Vote #1, which is a vote between the variants Throne War Mini and Simplicity. This is the first reintroduction of FFA variants in the Golden Variant cycle since last year and so an All Week arena will be used. 4 "Golden Variant" arenas of variants voted for below this post in Vote #2 and #3, to be scheduled on May 9, 16, 23, and 30. Platinum Variant Q2 format reminder (+ corrections in italics): April marks the start of "Quarter 2" of the 2025 Golden Variant cycle. The 5 top performing variants in their arenas featured as Golden Variants from April and May will be selected as candidates for the "Platinum Variant" vote.  Platinum Variants are pinned to the top of their category's list for a few months, are featured in a weeklong arena with membership prizes (note: regular Golden Variants do not have membership prizes), and are recognized as one of the most popular creator-made variants on the server. See the current confirmed schedule for 2025 here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/2025-golden-variant-schedule This month's voting process: Because last month's voting format using Chess.com's forum comment reactions have shown to be much more popular and accessible, we will continue to use them for future votes. For example: The 3 comments below this post will be the voting platform; use designated reactions to vote for variants! You may vote for more than one variant! The winner of Vote #1 with the most votes will be selected, the 2 top variants out of the 5 options with the most votes in Vote #2, and the 2 top variants out of the 5 options with the most votes in Vote #3 will be selected for the Golden Variant arenas this month! The polling for Vote #1 ends on May 2, 0 UTC. The polling for Votes #2, #3 ends on May 9, 0 UTC. Happy voting and may the best variants win!

Overview A game of classic chess but the players work together to stalemate in 50 or under moves. Basic Rules  8 * 8 board classic starting position classic pieces pawns promote on 8th rank Castling rules are normal En passant is allowed Changes From Classic Chess Goal is to stalemate in 50 or under 50 moves Elo is the same for both players (If they fail to stalemate in 50 or under 50 moves, then they both lose 10 Elo. Same for vice versa.) *******Except for the situation shown with the Chess.com logo******* Elo always changes by 10. It either goes up 10 or down 10 but never changes by any number other than 10. You cannot draw by agreement If a player resigns, then only the player who resigned loses 10 elo. The other player's elo stays the same as it was before. Finishing Touches If the game ends in anything but stalemate (. checkmate, perpetual check, etc.), or the game takes over 50 moves, then the game is considered lost and both players lose 10 Elo. If one player disconnects from the game without resigning, for ANY reason besides bad internet, then the player who left loses 20 elo. Nothing happens to the other players Elo. If you disconnect because of bad internet and ONLY because of bad internet, then nothing happens to your Elo, or the Elo of the player that you were playing with. This is the end of my idea, and I really hope that you enjoy and want to make it a real variant.  Goodbye, and have fun playing chess!                                                                                                            --- @Sterling-Murphy

There should be a piece that doesn't move or capture, but counts towards a player's pieces, gives points (possibly variable points?), and can be a royal

what I mean is that making forums to advertise a slot machine like today, where a user spammed a mobile app,and was banned, or show a common mate, like when someone made a whole forum to show fools mate and it had to get locked. so please, use them as a example of what not to do. please comment other wrong ways to use the forums. thank you.

Dear Admin and Variant Lovers, I have a great idea for a variant, but it requires construction/programming that I cannot perform. The variant requires the computer to acknowledge certain positions that are currently not in use under any available configuration of rules and pieces, and so forth. How will I proceed? Do I make anyone curious? The idea itself is not complex, it is really just a simple addition of some of the detective capacities that the engine already possesses. It is called 3MT1, and is a development of 3check, one that I think will benefit strategic and tactic faculties of all players of chess. Please, tell me how to proceed, so I can get to test it. Me and a friend have tested it already IRL, and we thought it was great. However, while playing it over the board, we might have missed something the engine would have detected.  Yours, Johannes.

Same as @imchesspro0930 ‘s idea proposal, except that the criteria to join is lower All you have to do is messsage me in my inbox that you want to join, I will give you a test consisting of 3-10 questions, you have 24 hours to give me your answers, if you are a person I know well then you won’t have to take the test, you can also request being a super admin or admin, but your request might be declined. P.S everyone’s tests is not necessary the same For the admins, if this violates any rules, please lock this forum, please do not delete this forum, and If it doesn’t violate any rules, then lock this forum too, because people may spam their test results.
