In an end game with the two kings, a dragon bishop, and the ferz walls the player with the dragon bishop can force a checkmate. Note 2: I included the FEN because I wanted to make it clear that the stone generals can move 2 squares on their first move, and they can capture each other en passant. Note 3: If only the two kings and ferz walls remain the king that has the opposition can force the game to end in less than 50 moves by forcing the other king into stalemate.

I found that if I resign when my opponent has only a king and bishop then it says draw by insufficient material regardless of what material I have https://www.chess.com/variants/custom/game/26880568/8/4 Yet in this same exact position the side with the king and bishop not only can checkmate but, can actually force a checkmate as shown herehttps://www.chess.com/variants/custom/game/26880608/35/2 In this position I found that if I took the bots bishop it said draw by insufficient material even though I have a forced checkmatehttps://www.chess.com/variants/custom/game/26880766/1/2 I even found here that there was a draw by checkmate bug. This is why I think it should either go back to only a king verses king being counted as a draw by insufficient material, or the a king and bishop should only be counted as draw by insufficient material when there's only another king, and there are no walls on the board, as in some custom positions a king and bishop is not only sufficient to checkmate, but is sufficient to force checkmate even with the other player making the best moves.

Why is Labyrinth 82 not in the Popular section of even the Featured 4P section? It has been played every single day (there's even the dedicated arena: 1|1 FFA Complexus), and it's quite beginner-friendly compared to the other variants on the Featured 4P section... (continued below) (As an example, there are many more, such as Thermopylae (which is on Featured 2P, but same concept), which was one of the least popular variants that is neither fun nor popular *in my opinion*) Glass Labyrinth is on the Featured 4P list; when it is:a.) Not beginner-friendly in the slightest, as it uses fairy pieces and is asymmetricalb.) Definitely was not "more popular" than other variantsc.) Highly debatable how fair the game is, although it generally evens out at *high level**Hence a reason for Point A Composite ratings are a joke. a.) You can play something in hyperbullet to inflate a variant's composite rating, or shun away the fast time controls altogether as it will devastate your rating. b.) If for example you played a variant using a composite rating, and Tactical was part of the composition, you would lose rating in other variants that use Tactical as well. So, one last place in a variant and you're screwed everywhere else. CGAs refuse to share any graphs or data (perhaps they don't have any in the first place?) to show popularity or take some notes to share with everyone on why each variant was placed where they are now (some possible prompts below)a.) How many games were played of this variant in the last (x) months?b.) How many unique players played this variant?c.) What is the reasoning for putting this variant in (y) section?d.) Was popularity or was balance/playability the determining factor? Or both? (Point 4 can be fixed after CGAs gather the information this week, as they've already temporarily closed NCV and WoF submissions, but they should at least publicly reveal the information)

Good day everyone, I'd like to elaborate on the full list of changes we made to the variants in a view of the merge event. I may ascertain that changes of ours, the CGA team, may and probably will confuse the variants creators and members. So, let me list all the changes we made during the extensive merge preparation: 1. Thermopylae, Villagers Chess II have had their useless promotion options cut down. 2. Best Friends Forever, Storming the Castle, Euler's Game, Salvation Bastions (formerly Bastions of Salvation), Underground War, Petrified and Unison have had their starting position/game rules changed according to the creator's ideas and their assent. 3. Almost all the variants have had their default time controls changed. 4. Bastions of Salvation (now Salvation Bastions), Fight in the Amazon Jungle (now Amazon Jungle), Behind the Mirror II (now Behind the Mirror), Laboratory of Knights-Sergeants (now Sergeants Laboratory), War for Throne II (now War for Throne), War for Throne Chronicles (now War for Throne Mini) have been renamed to make the names shorter. 5. Three variants by @RALRAL3333 have been added without a submission, due to the fact of numerous testing games and to bring variety to the two-player variants section. 6. Approximately 50% of all the variants on both former servers have been removed indefinitely, precluding their ability to be re-accepted also indefinitely. The complete list goes as follows: 6 Placementile, 2-player Chess 2.0, 2-player Chess: Upside Down, Arena of Heroes, Battle of Twins, Chaturaji BNRK, Capablanca Chess, Checky Chucky, Dead King Labyrinth, Foursquare, General War, Octagon, Sandworm, Smothered Kings, Spiral Flower, Triad, Field of Archers, Hades' Stallion, The Eyes of Horus, Gatekeepers, Charybdis, Hnefatafl, The Colosseum, Max's Game, Knightmare, Typhoon, The Burning Maze, 4P Fog of War, Giveaway in the Fog, Atomic Fog, Atomic Hill, Fog of Atomic Giveaway, Bells and Whistles. This was done in orde to ensure that the remaining half of variants shall thrive more in popularity and that it will be possible to popularize and bring attention to the remaining 4P variants. 7. The following positions have been converted to Wheels of Fortune: Hailstorm. 8. All antichess variants have been renamed due to a new naming standard to giveaway were they to have antichess in their name. 9. 4P Giveaway Hill was added as a giveaway variant. These changes were made after extremely tedious and careful consideration of all the aspects, with the goal to increase variant popularity and get rid of similar, too badly-made and dead variants but the ones that are played a lot by under 8 players in order to conceive perspectives for the remaining variants. We hope you like the changes, and please remember that they were made after month-long votes and discussions, with the prime consideration being the longest-term goals. In the nearby month, we are not accepting ANY more variants, to see how variants go.
As the newest member of the CGA team, I have an important announcement to make. Starting on April 11th, all WoFs MUST be submitted with a time control of 6 seconds. Any WoF that does not follow this rule will be automatically deleted and the poster will be muted for 1 week. This change was made in accordance with the WHO (World Hyperbullet Organization) and the CDC (Chess Deputies Circulation). Both organizations voted to change their rules on time controls, with a unanimous result of 69 to 0 for the former and 404 to 0 for the latter. Thank you for taking your time to read this!

Some variants differ drastically in gameplay than the others, and as such they require a subset of different, sometimes even contradistinct skills. Let's take a simple example: The Four Horsemen requires calculation skills and skills of predicting the opponent's tactical series, while Sergeants Laboratory on the other hand commonly incorporates elements akin to the standard two-player chess ones, such as bad pieces, space cramps and long-term positional advantages. As a scheme for categorizing the variants listed, the MTDPS (Materialistic, Tactical, Dynamic, Positional, Strategic) classification was developed. Let's start off from what is the emphasis being put on for the different game modes: 1. Two-Player games are being classified by their middlegames and endgames, all the main motifs present in these two stages of the game and how they are inter-related. 2. Three-Player FFA games are being classified by their three-player middlegames only. 3. Teams variants are being classified based on all the games stages, due to the fact that move order, the 4P exclusive feature, changes quite a good lot of things: some are classified on the middlegames/openings, a few exceptions are classified by endgames as it really depends on the variant most of time. 4. FFA variants are being classified primarily on the three-player stage and how does it inter-relate with two-player stage and with the four-player stage. So, let's get over to what each of the MTDPS does constitute in practice. The first and the main way of defining what does the game represent is the optimal, dominating strategy types in case of two-player and teams, and what is the optimal way to manipulate the other players and their board analysis for FFA games. By definition, games are high-level with players making a minimal amount of blunders or mistakes. 1. Materialistic games are based on maximizing the static advantages, the ones that cannot be taken away and the ones that will likely lead to a win given correct conversion. The players seek to prevent the other players from seizing their own static advantages. Lenghty, direct attacks do not take place commonly and mostly the game outcome is not being based on the direct threats, attacks, or non-permanent piece placement advantages, but development and piece placement still play a major role. 2. Tactical games are based on finding the balance between launching attacking lines against the other players and defending/preventing the other players' attacks. You could think of the tactical games as a race in some way: players try to be the first one to obtain a permanent advantage. The players need to take the tactical move sequences of the other players into account as the main evaluation factor, superseeding even the static advantages. 3. Dynamic games are based on gaining a spatial advantage and piece placement that allows for attacking the other players but not vice versa. This also includes preventing the other players from developing, claiming space or just building an optimal setup. Dynamic games are ultimately attacking games, but to a much lesser degree than tactical games, as dynamic games focus on piece development as the main evaluation factor but not the sequences themselves. 4. Positional games are based on trying to prevent optimal piece outposts via structuring pieces in a way that does not hinder the opponent's development yet does impede the opponent attacking and winning ideas, forcing long-term positional disadvantages that allow to develop but not to utilize your development. Should your opponent try to seize an advantage in such a lost position, they shall not be able to convert it as simplistic development would lead the opponent taking a greater advantage: you can compare this to how top-level chess players and engines play the timeless game. 5. Strategic games are based on predicting an opponent's plans and seeking ways to undermine their plan ideas before they even commence it in a meta-prophylactic manner, with the idea being to limit all the players from creating either positional or dynamic threats before launching an attack, as a direct tactical attack would be most of the time losing. The plan of the opponent does even yet exist, but the player already should consider the possible plans and try to make them implausible. Usually, MTDPS is not only based on the above, but rather two more gameplay ideas from the classification, but to a weaker extent: 1. Materialistic incorporates elements from Strategic and Dynamic. 2. Tactical incorporates elements from Materialistic and Dynamic. 3. Dynamic incorporates elements from Tactical and Positional. 4. Positional incorporates elements from Dynamic and Tactical. 5. Strategic incorporates elements from Positional and Dynamic.
