Everyone!! I'd like to hear your opinion on this: I am thinking of having weekly chess positions from openings, middlegames and endgames. In these positions, you find what, in your opinion, is the best move and state why. I will provide what I think is the best move which I will play. This can stimulate our chess brain cells and help us analyse and understand positions better. This is also known as positional puzzles. What do you think?
Hi everybody, As you may or may not know, this group has chosen to enter the Fortnight Speed Vote League for Season 2 beginning on October 19th. The schedule will be posted on October 5th so that everyone has a full 2 weeks to coordinate their first game. However, this group has never completed a Speed Vote Game yet (they've all timed out in the first few hours), so I think it's very important that we have a trial run, just to make sure we can go the distance. These games are incredibly intense, exciting, and addictive, but they can also be very time consuming. At 10-mins per turn, each team will make 3 moves per hour, so the average game lasts 7-10 hours. However, they can be over much sooner, or they can drag on much longer (the longest game in Season 1 was over 21 hours long). No one needs to be online for the entire game (although many players choose to do so). The only important thing to remember is that SOMEONE be online to make a move every 20 minutes to avoid timing out. Here is a list of the other teams joining the league who have yet to complete a Speed Vote game either. I think it would be a good idea if we challenged one of them. 1. Cheers - (Leth) 2. Supreme Pawns - (legodood) 3. International Chess Masters - (GeniusKJ) 4. Super Troopers - (DannyDawson) 5. The Ultimate Alliance - (ShiViChess) 6. The Three Kingdoms - (ShiViChess) 7. Talking to Manchero last night, I decided I wanted to try to play a game using the Haloween Gambit. Things seemed to be going good for me untill my attack stalled which I think is completely my own fault. I would love to get some opinions on this game.

Hello everyone this is my first time posting here (I'm new )! I found some information here for begginers and newcomers in chess! Enjoy! Get your pieces out into the centre quickly. The opening is a race to see who can get their pieces out first while keeping at least a share of control of the centre. This is the main point to remember; all the other rules are just footnotes to this one More detail on winning the race: Move pieces not pawns, and move them to their best squares in one move if you can, and also try to gain time if you can by aggressive moves. Move minor pieces out first, not your Q or RRs which can be attacked and lose time Get a firm foothold in the centre and don't give it up Generally move Knights straightaway to f3/c3 or f6/c6 Move your king to safety at the side by castling King's-side (which also gets your Rook into play) Complete your development before moving a piece twice or starting an attack Keep your queen safe Don't grab pawns or attack if you haven't completed development What to do if there is a lead in development: If you are ahead in development, start something going and open up lines for your better pieces If you are behind in development, don't start anything and keep things closed until you have caught up Lasker's rules for the opening Do not move any pawns in the opening of a game but the King and Queen pawns. Do not move any piece twice in the opening, but put it at once on the right square. Bring out your knights before developing your bishops, especially the Queen's Bishop. Do not pin the adverse King Knight (ie. by Bg5) before your opponent has castled. Why should you move the knights first? Well, knights are very much more effective if they are in the centre. (Bishops are more effective here too, but they can work from a distance). For the opening that has to mean Knights moving to c3 and f3 (or c6 and g6). Where should the Bishops go? The White King's Bishop on f1 could go to b5,c4,d3 or even e2. Which is best? That depends on what your opponent is up to. So, move your knights straight away to the centre, and while you are doing that your opponent's moves may suggest to you where you should put your bishops. Fine's rules for the opening Open with either the e-pawn or the d-pawn. Wherever possible, make a good developing move which threatens something or adds to the pressure on the centre. Develop knights before bishops. Pick the most suitable square for a piece and develop it there once and for all. Make one or two pawn moves in the opening, not more. Do not bring your queen out too early. Castle as soon as possible, preferably on the king's side. Play to get control of the centre. Always try to maintain at least one pawn in the centre. Do not sacrifice without a clear and adequate reason, eg.: it secures a tangible advantage in development it deflects the opponent's queen it prevents the opponent from castling it enables a strong attack to be developed Nimzovitch's Seven Axioms (from My System) Development is to be understood as the strategic advance of the troops toward the frontier line (the line between the fourth and fifth ranks). A pawn move must not in itself be regarded as a devloping move, but merely as an aid to development. To be ahead in development is the ideal to be aimed for. Exchange with resulting gain of tempo. Liquidation, with consequent development or disembarrassment. The pawn centre must be mobile. There is no time for pawn hunting in the opening, except for centre pawns. chessbot7

In this gambit, you begin with the 4 knights opening; often considered a rather boring opening leading to a fair number of draws. 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 and that's where the 'boring' opening ends. 4.Nxe5 which loses your knight for a pawn. Is it worth it? It is certainly enjoyable to play and with white taking a lead in development the game often ends with black (usually unfamiliar with the opening) making a small error (and it often only needs to be small) leading to a white victory. Give it a try. Hopefully these links will help; Articles Halloween Gambit 1 Halloween Gambit 2 Halloween Gambit 3 Videos Halloween Gambit Halloween Gambit 2 Halloween Gambit 3 Halloween Gambit 4

The above club is our fellow club, which has 15 members. We have several team games going, and need more members. If anyone would like to join, we would be very grateful of your support. At the moment, we have team games waiting to start with Barca and Arsenal. Thanks, hope that some of you can join.
I don't think Chelsea will be the biggest challenge next year, I think it'll be Liverpool. There will be a posse of others that will be the chasing pack, including Man city, chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton. I think that United will be ahead of the pack, with Liverpool the closest rivals.
What is the prediction for tomorrow- or later today vs Porto ? I am a little concerned, unless the defence is sorted out, and Rooney plays, but I think United will hit them on the break and win 2-1.
There are a few football fans getting together to start a football themed 5 a side chess league. As you have probably guessed, it will consist of team matches with 5 players per side. The exact format is yet to be determined. As we have a large group, we are able to register 2 teams. Twice as many chances to torment Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal! Unfortunately Man City fans can't play chess, so they don't have a team. These 2 teams will have their own group name, along the lines of MUFC, MUFC B, or similar. The opponents in these matches are quite likely to start chatting football to you, so this is for the more keen MU fans within the group. If you would like to take part, please post here. Also, let me know if you want to be an admin for either of these 2 smaller groups (ideally a premium member with minimal time-outs). I'm happy to start them, then leave it to the teams to change their groups as they wish. EDIT: the first group has been set up, here is the link if you wish to participate; http://www.chess.com/groups/home/manchester-united EDIT: the second group has been set up, here is the link if you wish to participate; http://www.chess.com/groups/home/fc-united-of-manchester
Norway is a great country, as has been said, we're not 'racist' judging a whole country by the actions of one. We have refs that make errors as well.
