In an effort to keep up on the League, I've been watching the list of new Vote Games getting started. And since a couple teams have already withdrawn, and we don't know who's going to want to come back next season, I've decided to look at all the Speed Vote Games that have been played (since we started this) to see who else we might recruit into the league for next season. Here are the games: Knockout (move 3), Knockout (move 3), Knockout (move 3) Submission (move 18) timeout (move 29) timeout (move 18), timeout (move 18) timeout (move 15) timeout (move 12) timeout (move 9), timeout (move 9) timeout (move 6) timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5), timeout (move 5) timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 4), timeout (move 3), timeout (move 3), timeout (move 3), timeout (move 3) timeout (move 2) timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1), timeout (move 1) And here are the team records (for this season - NON-league games ONLY): 19-0 The Chess Players Team 15-0 People of Islam 3-1 Team Mongolia 3-1 Thinking Like a King 3-2 The Power of Chess 3-4 Chess Unlimited 2-0 The Tegirmon Club 2-0 Kairav's Chess Masters 2-3 Burning Pawns 2-6 Chess Players of African-Descent 1-0 Fast Players Group 1-0 Bananas 1-0 The Best 1-0 7 Seven 7 1-0 bvgs 1-0 Chess Maniacs 1-1 Chess Club Finland 1-1 The Checkmate Club 1-1 Chess Friends for Friends 1-2 x-MAN 1-8 The Trojan Horse 0-1 Team Kosovo 0-1 Supreme Tactics 0-1 Chess Unlimater 0-1 King's Own Gambit Appreciation Society 0-1 We Are Admin 0-1 United Chess.com 0-1 TMNT 0-1 Admin Club 0-1 Icelandic Group 0-1 Chess Empire 0-1 We Don't Resign 0-1 Online Chess 0-2 Checkmaters of Chess.com 0-2 Only Me 0-3 Green Group 0-3 Friends 0-7 Legend of the Seeker in Chess.com 0-8 Gold Stars of Chess.com There's more, but that's as many links as it will let me fit into one post. As I was compiling this, I saw a lot of very suspicious activity. It looks like a few people are intentionally inflating their leaderboard points. I really hope this doesn't cause Chess.com to discontinue the 10-min games!! I'll have to finish this later.

FSVL Rules: (last updated 8/4) The FSVL is open to 20 teams per season. These teams will be divided into four “conferences” of 5 teams each. Each season lasts 17 weeks. The First Season will run from Monday, June 22 thru Sunday, October 18. The Second Season will run from Monday, October 19 thru Sunday, February 14. Each fortnight begins and ends at midnight (Universal Time) and runs from Monday thru Sunday. At some point during each fortnight (14 days total), each team will complete one game of Vote Chess against the team on their schedule for that fortnight. It is the responsibility of the Team Administrators to coordinate start times with their opposing teams each fortnight. There is a maximum of 5 days for admins to issue a challenge to their opposing team stating their desired start time, and a maximum of 3 days for the other team to respond. If no start time can be agreed upon, then the FSVL will have to step in and set a time for them. Once the start time has been agreed upon, a team will forfeit the match if they do not accept the challenge within 1 hour of the scheduled start time. Every team will play every other team in their conference once. Each team will have one “bye” week with no scheduled game. Every Vote Chess game will be played at 10-minutes per turn. Every Vote Chess game will be played with random color settings. The first 10 weeks will be the “Regular Season” with the next 6 weeks being the “Post Season” or “Playoffs.” Teams will be ranked according to this point system:Win = 3 points Draw = 1 point Ties are broken via the “First Blood” system (if two teams have the same number of points, the team that scored their points first is ranked higher) The leaders in each conference will automatically be seeded #s 1-4 in the playoffs. There will be 4 “Wild Card” spots available to the 4 non-division-leaders with the best records. Week 11/12 will be the Quarter Finals with only the Top 8 teams competing. The #1 team will play the #8 team The #2 team will play the #7 team The #3 team will play the #6 team The #4 team will play the #5 team Week 13/14 will be the Semi-Finals between the four Quarter-Final winners. The #1 team will play the #4 team The #2 team will play the #3 team Week 15/16 will be the FSVL Finals between the winners of each Semi-Final game. The winner of this game will be the Champion for that Season. Week 17 is the “Off Season.” Everybody gets to take a break. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. These rules are subject to change (based on group discussions and votes), so please check this thread (and more specifically this post) regularly.

So the pairings/results for Fortnight #1 (June 22-July 5) are: Team Antartica vs Team Benelux "de Leeuwen" - Team Antartica wins by timeout (move 1) Rapid Chess vs Chess & Cola Club - Chess & Cola Club wins by submission (move 33) The Power of Chess vs Wizards of Oz - The Power of Chess wins by submission (move 37) Chess Nuts vs Narz's People - Chess Nuts win by submission (move 37) Chess Unlimited vs The Dark Knights - The Dark Knights win by knockout (move 32) Chess Friends for Friends vs The Best - The Best wins by timeout (move 1) The Blakenators vs Chess Empire - The Blakenators win by timeout (move 14) Fast Players Group vs Supreme Pawns - Fast Players Group wins by timeout (move 9) Feel free to post games/links/results for Week 1 in this thread. For the standings, I prefer the system that gives 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw because it encourages more aggresive play and discourages draws (no one enjoys watching a tie). So the Standings after week 1 are: 3 points = Team Antartica, Chess & Cola Club, The Power of Chess, Chess Nuts, The Dark Knights, The Best, The Blakenators, Fast Players Group 0 points = Everyone Else

Ok, after some discussion in these forums and group notes, it was agreed upon that instead of trying to make everyone play their games within a 96-hour window, we would allow a full 2 weeks (14 days) in which to complete each scheduled game. This will allow each team more time to coordinate a match with their opponent, and give them the option of playing on weekdays rather than just the weekend. I will be updating the official rules thread soon, but in summary: Each Fortnight will begin and end at Midnight (Universal Time), and will run from Monday thru Sunday. There is a maximum of 5 days to issue a challenge, and a maximum of 3 days to accept it, or agree on an alternate start time. The game may take place at any time during the 2 weeks (you do NOT need to wait 5+3 days to begin). The teams will now be broken into 4 conferences of 5 teams, and the regular season will be only 4 games (1 game every 2 weeks) instead of 9 (1 game every week). Here is the schedule for each conference: Game Dates A B C D E 1 6/22-7/5 B A E C 2 7/6-7/19 C A E D 3 7/20-8/2 D C B A 4 8/3-8/16 E D B A 5 8/17-8/30 E D C B And here are the conferences: East Group Contact Rank Members Average A Rapid Chess johanpalmaer 9 537 1648 B Chess & Cola Club Kokino 67 187 1454 C The Blakenators dannydawson 50 622 1610 D Animal Lovers Billium248 220 252 1397 E Chess Empire Matter 89 166 1793 South Group Contact A Chess Unlimited jaller435718 4 1321 1491 B The Dark Knights Billium248 14 231 1494 C Team Antartica Kokino 120 193 1593 D Kairav's Chess Masters GeniusKJ 132 197 1607 E Team Benelux "de Leeuwen" Dutchgalego 963 26 1702 North Group Contact A Chess Friends for Friends Dutchgalego 45 144 1442 B The Best Mygame5377 29 905 1503 C Fast Players Group mthinker 1 549 1574 D The Premiere of All DanielBlake 73 205 2231 E Supreme Pawns legodood 341 163 1761 West Group Contact A The Power of Chess Komoliddin07 2 1123 1784 B Wizards of Oz rab63 328 109 1516 C Chess Nuts chess_kebabs 1244 241 1583 D Chess Team Holland Dutchgalego 438 179 1662 E Narz's People Narz 28 110 1545 So this week's schedule is unchanged, but there is a week-long extension on actually getting these games played.

There seems to be a little confusion regarding when these games will take place and how long they will last. At 10-minutes/turn, each team will make 3 moves per hour. This means that an average game (21-30 moves) will last only 7-10 hours. Granted, it is possible for someone to timeout in the first hour or two. It is also possible that a game could drag on for 60 moves or so (which would take 20 hours). But no one will be playing for the entire weekend (unless the game lasts for 288 moves). ;-) The idea is that you have a total of 96 hours in which to play this game. It does not matter if you play the game on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (or even Thursday or Monday depending on your time zone), as long as the game is completed sometime within those 96 hours (12am Friday (GMT+14) thru 12am Monday (GMT-10). It is always the same time, but different days, in time zomes +14 and -10. When it is Midnight there (the International Date Line), it is 6am here in Detroit (Eastern Daylight Savings Time). That means that the weekend in my time zone lasts from 6am Thursday thru 6am Monday. If you live in London (British Summer Time), then the weekend will run from 11am Thursday thru 11am Monday. Every time my group has played a Speed Vote Game, I have been online from start to finish, as have many other players. Obviously no one is required to be online for the whole 7-10 hours, as long as there is one person willing to keep the game from timing out, but it's not out of the question either. This is where communication is going to be VERY IMPORTANT, and why I am posting contact info for each group. If, for example, Chess Unlimited is scheduled to play Chess Empire, then Jaller435718 or Falling-upwards will have to arrange a mutually agreeable start time with Kacparov or Chuzzlechamp, and both sides will need to inform their respective groups as to when this game will start. I'm sure that some games will be played on Friday, some on Saturday, and some on Sunday. Some will start early in the morning, and some will start late at night (depending on your time zone). If you're in more than one group, it's possible that you could be playing with The Dark Knights on Saturday and The Chess Nuts on Sunday (as long as they're not playing each other of course). Every game will be completed in less than one day (unless it lasts for more than 72 moves), and it is very possible for any given individual to be present for the entire game. Here is a SAMPLE time grid to give you an idea of what time it will be in each time zone at various points in the game. This grid has a start time of Midnight on the International Date Line to also help you see what time that is in your time zone, but as I said, the start time can be whatever time and day the two teams decide upon. UTC Start move 18 Move 36 move 54 14 12 Mid 6am 12 Noon 6pm 13 11pm 5am 11am 5pm 12 10pm 4am 10am 4pm 11 9pm 3am 9am 3pm 10 8pm 2am 8am 2pm 9 7pm 1am 7am 1pm 8 6pm 12 Mid 6am 12 Noon 7 5pm 11pm 5am 11am 6 4pm 10pm 4am 10am 5 3pm 9pm 3am 9am 4 2pm 8pm 2am 8am 3 1pm 7pm 1am 7am 2 12 Noon 6pm 12 Mid 6am 1 11am 5pm 11pm 5am 0 10am 4pm 10pm 4am -1 9am 3pm 9pm 3am -2 8am 2pm 8pm 2am -3 7am 1pm 7pm 1am -4 6am 12 Noon 6pm 12 Mid -5 5am 11am 5pm 11pm -6 4am 10am 4pm 10pm -7 3am 9am 3pm 9pm -8 2am 8am 2pm 8pm -9 1am 7am 1pm 7pm -10 12 Mid 6am 12 Noon 6pm I'm sorry this post was so long, but I wanted to try and clear this up for everyone. Any questions?
