There are some crazy variants out there that no one ever plays, so why do we have them? Why don't we crack down and really make the most popular ones the best. I am saying bug-fixes, spin-off variants OF variants and it shouldn't be too complicated. For example, make atomic chess have less explosion range or make other pieces invincible. Because let's be honest, no one plays Villagers Chess II. So I am asking for ideas that spin-off off the most popular variants. Feel free to add screenshots, explanations, etc.

This tournament will be primarily made to shine the unpopular variants, thus it may not be variants in featured, common, most popular. Please leave a comment if you are interested, and what variants you would like to see in the tournament. This tournament will only be made if atleast 20 people are interested in it. Just leave a comment for suggestions, questions, etc.  You do not have to play everything in the tournament, only the ones you are competant at. If you only play 1 variant, your scores will be multiplied by 3 that you did play on. If you play 2, your scores will be multiplied by 1.5. Playing 3 or 4 variants will not have any amplifiers being applied. There is planned be 4 variants that will be featured in this tournament, Acheron WILL be one of them, and there will be a really good chance Chaturdrez will be another. The others will solely be decided by voting. This tournament is meant to give shoutouts to unpopular variants, thus please be genuine about your voting. The variant you vote may not be your own variant, unless you thoroughly explain why your variant deserves better popularity than what it currently proclaims. I will confirm it using BN1208's spreadsheet. The scoring will be as follows. In 2P Variants, Wins are 3 points, Draws are 1 point, and losses will be tallied as 0, and for 2P Variants only, matches will be played a in Best of 3 if the players decide to play in a Blitz time control, and a single game if players decide to play on a Rapid time control. This is fully up to the players to decide, but rapid may not be any slower than 10|0 and blitz, 4|3, and points will be subjected as such. In 4p variants if we do get them, 1st place will be 4 points, 2nd will be 1, 1 for 3rd, and none for 4th. If one decides to abort a game (less than 5 moves), the whole game will need to be replayed. Repeated abort offenses will lead to a ban in this tournament.  The players you will play against will be 7 random opponents in the timezone you select in the poll below. This will be subject to change depending on interest. Or 7 games you will play in 4p variants, selected using a random wheel. You may ask for a reroll, if at least 4 of your opponents have either 200 or higher composed or pure rating of that respective variant. Teams variants will be decided by vote to be played in Self-Partner or not.  There will be 4 timezones play will be available in. Please tell me the timezones via this poll: https://strawpoll.com/poy9kPWjQgJ This forum will be posted on the Variants club, and Custom Variants.  So, now, what will be the prizes? This tournament is planned to have 1 month Diamond membership as 1st place, 1 month Platinum as 2nd, and 1 month gold as 3rd. The amount of Platinum and Gold could potentially increase, depending on interest. If the prizes are not paid, you may ban me from this club as punishment. I will guarantee the prizes will be paid within a week of the tournament's ending.  Accounts must be made before Dec 22nd, 2024 to be eligible for a prize for all participants.  This tournament is subjected to start at January 4th or 5th, Further polls will be made to confirm dates and timezones.  To join this tournament and receive further notice about this event, you can join this club: https://www.chess.com/club/chess-variants-tournament Again, leave comments for either participation (Just say I will join or something like that), questions, or the variants you would like to see on this tourney! Happy playing!

Right now there is already a variant, Giveaway, in which capture is compulsory, but in Giveaway you win by capturing all your opponents pieces. I think it would be interesting though to have a variant, in which you win in the same way as in regular chess, but if you can capture something you must. So for instance in this variant if white played e4?? from the standard starting position, black could immediately win the queen with h5 as the queen would have to take the pawn.

When you click on the ? to play Minihouse it shows you how to play but there is a mistake where it says pawns pawns promote on the 7th rank but they promote on the 6th rank because the board is 6x6.
This variant might be weird. The starting position looks like this: The rules are the same as chess, except for this only change: - A pawn can only promote to a bishop, knight and rook. I had this idea while playing with my friends.

IMPORTANT: ALL THIS IS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION ON AN INFINITE BOARD WITH NO OBSTACLES. A rook can go to any square on the board from anywhere in 2 moves. Same as a queen. A dragon knight (Bishop + Wazir) can go to any squares in 3 moves. but what about a knightrider? We all know how a knightrider moves from variants such as The Lake, and wait, nothing else? Oh, Storming The Castle? Whatever. It is a ranging type of knight, and it is known to be various people's favourite pieces because of how unpredictable it is. It is quite trivial that a knightrider can move to any square in 4 moves, because a knight has 4 different directions, Those 4 rays. A knight can go anywhere with infinite moves, unlike some pieces that are color-blind. The final destination does not change solely b changing the order of the moves, not their directions. Thus, we can deduce that a knightrider can go anywhere in 4 moves. But, can we push this further? How about 3 moves? How about 2? Well, a knightrider can go to any square IN 3 moves. You might ask, what is the purpose of this pic? As you can see, you can go to any square marked in the same colors in 2 moves or less, because of the same reasons of a rook. That means, if you get your knightrider as the same color as the destination, which is possible no matter what in 1 move as indicated by the arrow, if you approach in the other directions, it crosses over all 5 'polarities'. Thus, if we add 2 + 1, we can go to any square in a maximum of 3 moves. Sorry if the color scheme is comfusing. How about 2? Well, you cannot because of this simple example. You cannot use a knightrider to travel between those 2 knights in 2 moves. It is quite trivial, I do not want to setup a math equation for this. Thanks for this shower thought that I actually made it into a forum.
Fight in a destructive battle try to capture the general from the other players. 9 checks, capturing the general or reaching the center of the board is checkmate. If a player loses, his pieces change color to the one who checkedmate. Pawns are promoted to camel, ferz, bishop, dabbaba rider, xiangqi horse, or wazir in the fifth rank. I also posted it on Custom position Club.

Hey, guys! You start with 16 kings, located on the first two ranks of the chessboard.  Every time a chess piece makes a move, it transforms into another piece according to a given cycle:King > Pawn > Knight > Bishop > Rook > Queen > KingThus, after moving a King, the King is transformed into a Pawn of the same color. After moving a Pawn, the Pawn becomes a Knight, and so on. All chess pieces move and capture according to the FIDE Rules of Chess, except that Pawn moves only one square forward and King can be captured like any other piece. Thus, in the game there is no concept of check as such and the king is not inviolable. Capture is mandatory. If several pieces can be captured, the player chooses any of them. At the end of your turn, there must be at least one king of your color on the board. If such a condition cannot be met, then you have been checkmated. Why is the club so inactive, what is going on? (Besides, I feel like I'm the one who uploads the most forums in the team)..

Many times I have played horde chess black wins and white wins with at least 1 blunder from black. What do you think ?? Vote your opinions and You vote like this: If you vote that black is indeed winning type "B" But if you vote that White wins with his massive pawn army then type "W" The color that gets the most votes wins!

Once I was making a variant, and when I tried to play it, a royal pawn has a legal move to push 2 squares and expose itself to be captured via en passant. The position looks like this (All pawns on the board are royal The pawn just went 2 squares, and the other pawn can capture it en passant. After that, black didn't lose. the game continues. Please chess.com fix this bug

Just set up a physical board at home.  The different looking kings, rooks, and queens here are guards, chancellors, and hawks.  Anyone wants to play remotely?

Vote here for the forest you like the most. If you don't know how to play them, I can teach you: -Mini forest: Pawns become bishop, dabbaba, bishop, camel, grasshopper or ferz on the eighth rank. To checkmate, the opponent's king must be captured. The scoring system is point-based, meaning you must score more points than your opponent. -Enchanted Woodland: Cast a spell that will remain on the board for 2 moves before making a move. Spells are limited, they recharge after 5 full turns and therefore the same spell cannot be cast 2 moves in a row. Use the Jump spell on another piece to jump as if it weren't there. Or use the Freeze spell to prevent pieces from moving or staying within a 3x3 area of effect. Be careful: any piece, including yours, will freeze if it enters the spell's area. Use spells to find a checkmate or capture the king. Pawns are promoted to bishop, camel, ferz, grasshopper, bishop, dabba or alibaba on the 12th rank. -Amazon Jungle: The winer is the player with the most points. Earn enough points to claim victory or checkmate your opponent. The royal grasshopper is worth 20 points and each amazon is worth 12 points. Your king's points and all remaining amazon points on the board will be given to your opponent if you fold or claim victory. Pawns are promoted to chancellor, archbishop, or wildebeest at the eighth rank. Now, which one do you choose?

Mini variants are small (or supposed to be) variants or small variations of others. At the moment there are only 6 mini variants, but I have a question, why did they create mini variants?
