That's the same box mine came in on Franks site.  Its faux leather. It is the same case I have seen other sets sold by Lowe came in. Do you have the  67 ad Ron?

I'm a USCF member and you can search their magazine archives for being one. I will see if I can copy the ad. Nope. It's a pdf file but here is the link it is about half way down the page ... http://uscf1-nyc1.aodhosting.com/CL-AND-CR-ALL/CL-ALL/1967/1967_06.pdf

Thanks , Robert. The kings crown in the ad looks like mine and the cross looks like Rons. I like the crown on Rons king. Has anybody seen an ad for the 4" version?

Thanks  . Couldn't figure out how to get it from the site.

Thanks for posting the archive @Ronbo710. I am surprised by the ingenuity of those boxes. Having individual boxes must have contributed to why your pieces are in such great condition. It proves that good packaging doesn't have to be expensive.

The other style of boxing found in the ad is also nice at $ 45 :-)

Wow...the olive wood on these sets is dreamy. Nice finds, guys.

Beautiful, was waiting to see your pictures. Never found that Fischer picture, where he sits with a glass eyed set in a living room, but I’ll keep looking.

Beautiful, and goes great with that board imo.

@sound67 - Those olive wood pieces are exotic. And beautifully carved as well. I'm intrigued by your smell comment. What exactly does it smell like? Cigarette? Oh... you're referring to the leather case.

The dark are Palisander Rosewood. They appear to be later 70 'a oil finished. Nice set. I have those in all sizes except the elusive 4".

I had a high end turntable made of that wood.It was so beautiful.

I just.oicked up an olive wood set of this glass-eyed variety on eBay for about $100, which I thought was a decent price. It's the 1974 Olympiad edition without the polish/laquer. I haven't taken possession yet but it looks lovely from the seller's pictures. I don't really like Lardy pieces that much (even though I have probably 10 sets now, including two of the massive ones!). But I really like these glass-eyed versions.

This yellow olive wood version looks nice. The wavy grain pattern is quite intriguing.
