Good Chess Books for Beginners and Beyond...

I agree with Denverhigh. "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" is an excellent choice. I bought it a loooooong time ago and still refer to it from time to time. Most decent used book stores will have a copy or two.
Over the past few days I feel like I’ve been making a break through and understanding the game way more. I played on my phone in the beginning and 3 days ago I switched over to my IPad and it was a huge game changer, I can actually se the board now.
I’m at about a 500 level and since I switched I started beating one of my friends who’s rated 1400.
I’m starting to grasp good fundamentals and tactics but my end game is super weak, probably because I thinks it’s very boring to study. Putting people in checkmate when I have a very obvious positional advantage ends up being difficult for me, sometimes I go complete potato and loose my pieces to a king.
But I’m looking for a good book for like nighttime reading that’ll get me just a little more familiar with chess. I analyze my games do the lessons but sometimes I just want to read about chess and not so much force myself to do lessons and what not.
Thank you!
