I suspect it's not showing the "insert pictures or images" icon for a reason, maybe since I only joined today. Will try again tomorrow.
Is this Jaques Anderssen? (wrecked)
The Jaques Anderssen is one of the nicest set ever made , So yes if's it is the real thing ? ![]()

It’s most likely the Anderssen drop jaw. Annoying not to be able to post photos yet. The set is in bad shape, an attic find. The white knights are intact and good shape if a little scruffy but I wouldn’t dare clean them. The black knights have their noses broken off. Rooks are all good. One black bishop still had its lop/nop, the other 3 gone. White queen has a top nop and both kings lost their cross. Pawns mostly intact, one lost its base.
Nicely weighted, felts all look original and the same colour. King will be 3 1/2 when restored with his cross I’d say.
I love it, broken as it is, still playable and so very tactile of course.

That’s one helluva collection there! Impressive!! My pieces look the same as your set number 4, albeit after they’ve been through a wash/spin cycle 😄

Yes what a collection , One can only wish ! ![]()
If it were mine I'd not restore a thing. It's a survivor, it's beautiful and, as you said, it's playable. Take the black knights, they couldn't look better.
Wow, this is a great example of a weathered and battlescarred Andersson Drop-Jaw! Personally, I wouldn't restore the set, as I'd want to maintain the authentic and rustic nature of the pieces. Plus, all the repairs needed for accurate restoration, especially regarding the knights, are very costly.
If you don't mind me asking, how long have you owned the set, where/how was it obtained, and do you have any stories or memories attached? I love extra context behind old sets like these!

It was an attic find and posted on eBay about 10 or 12 years ago. I didn't pay much for it. I've always loved it and recently thought I should do it justice and repair, but with some regret I'm inclined not to. You're right, there's a considerable amount of work and it would certainly lose a chunk of it's innocent charm.
I’ve owned this rag bag set for a long time now, thinking I’d get it restored one day. It’s been suggested it might be a rare Anderssen set. Damaged as it is as far as I can tell it’s all from the same set. Should I restore, or let a new owner go on that journey?
I’ll attach a couple of images. Can post more if there’s interest.
Edit: not sure how to post photos.. gimme a minute 😉
