My experience with Chess Bazaar

sound67, in another place you said you now have well over a dozen sets from CB.  I would say this puts you as our resident CB expert.

You also mentioned that you started buying sets only a number of months ago, not years.  What this means to me is that you have been able to experience CB as they now are better than before.

Obviously CB has brought their products up in quality.  And it looks like an improvement in design details as well as production.

Back in the difficult days there never was a situation of their prices being high.  Now we have to wait for sales and other discounts for those low prices.

I also never experienced any problems with the sets I bought from them, and that has been over the last 4 years.  So, the problems you hear of did not exist for every set they sold.

Where can I see this collection of good taste?

The link shows $174.99. Do they discount in etsy too?

What do you think about the ebonized boxwood now that you have your hands on it?  Would you even be able to tell it's not real ebony?

Kudos to "Sound67"!

I've just received my new C.B. Empire set in the Bud R/W and high gloss finish. This is my 12th set from C.B. and in the past I had numerous issues with that company's quality(all taken care of to my satisfaction.....but...a hassle nevertheless).

Zero issues here....The pieces are absolutely flawless and are stunning in the gloss finish.

It would appear that C.B. has gotten their Q/C to a very high level,if this is what they are putting out now.....Great job!

CB Red Rum is also a good-looking and beautiful set and everyone must add it to their collection before it runs out. The CB sale will not last for too long, so speed makes all the difference.

There is always a sale, minimum 35% to maximum 45% in Chessbazaar throughout the year. Strange!!! Isn't it? No, rush.😂

It is best if customers do not wait for too long as these CB sets sell very fast. Time is of essence!

Yes, import tax and shipment cost from House of Chess is a big deterent. The good thing about Chessbazaar is the shipment is free and they also cover the customs duties but their sets always contain some sort of defect and replacements take weeks to arrive.

This comment is meant for another thread about repro Drueke by HOC.

"always" is a stretch. The three sets I have bought have been flawless.

Charousek2002
The defects are not too serious, and usually they are hairline cracks, slight chips or scuffs or weight imbalance that even escape the buyers’ attention. Of course, Chessbazaar provides free replacements that are sent by Post India and arrive in 25 days.

You sure you don't already have that set sitting in a box somewhere? 🙃

Why would light weighting be designed for blitz?  I would think that more weight = more stable= less likely to knock over in a blitz game.

I think the pieces are heavy enough not to tip too easily, and in a Blitz game you might get tired from lugging around 100g+ pieces.

I checked the chessbazaar site for the weight of their "blitz" set, and it is indeed lightly weighted.  (38 oz or 1080 g for the set) .  So you must be right, that blitz players need to conserve their energy and can't be burning those extra calories moving "heavy" pieces.

For Blitz unweighted chess set is best. Weighted ones get damaged quickly in blitz.
Charousek2002
I agree with you. Wooden sets get damaged very quickly in blitz chess from my experience.
