Anti-Borg

I just love the idea that a player was so concerned about playing against the Borg opening (1.e4 g5) that they came up with the Anti-Borg. 1.h4

Does anyone know the history behind this opening? 

I don't know, but I don't think one should bother with it.

It's the rarest first move according to chess.com opening explorer. The most played first move (e4) is 30.000 times more played than h4.

I love the anti-borg opening. I have never lost when playing it.

You shouldn't always trust wiki, but generally it is a valuable source of information.

For example, this Russian guy perhaps played against players much below his rating, so he would win regardless of the opening.

I very much doubt David Bronstein ever said such a thing except possibly as a joke along 'velocity's lines - ie I have never played 1.h4 therefore I have never lost with it - but in that case this quote has too many 'always's

Im actually trying to develop this opening, but it is really hard, because there are so many variations from the begining from the  1. ... b6 or 1. ... g6 to the 1. ... c5 1. ... c6 1. ... f6 etc etc.

But it is actully FUN!!!

i won several games with this opening even those of 2100 of rating a few times, 

I think the real point for this odd 1.h4 opening, more than an "anti" for the borg defense, is to take your opponent and yourself OUT of the Book :). and with that the balance is almost equal, because Openings Book is taken away and TACTICS are there from the very beginning :) , a few of the 2000's ppl know very well certain openings, however not all of em know good tactics.

1.h4 try it at least 10 times :)

My belief is that between 2000 strength players like myself ie not master level few games are decided due to opening knowledge.

If you get your pawns in the centre and your pieces out get castled and connect your rooks then job done. You do not need any opening theory. As if you find yourself marginally worse it doesn't matter a fig.  

So h4 in itself is not bad it simply passes the first move to black as it does nothing to aid the above opening mantra.

However as a shock tactic I have scored many successes in blitz tournaments especially if you follow up with 2.h5 and 3.h6!

I played a full game here of Stockfish 13 NNUE on my laptop (white) vs Stockfish 13 NNUE on my phone (black). There were a ton of potentials for variation; many places had 6,7, even 10 lines that all lead to equal games. The game ended up being a draw but I thought it was super interesting that playing this opening leads to a lot of totally new positions.
