is this really the best outcome for black?

It is kinda weird. Even when someone fails with the Fried Liver it still succeeds at messing up your structure. I'm not the best at analysis, so I don't know for sure.

exactly. I'm still struggling with how to deal with it. and I don't see that black comes out even after the defense they give in the lessons.

You could also try 5.b5 Ulvestad variation instead of 5.Na5. If 6.Bxb5 Qxd5 black is all good. 6.Bf1 has been shown to be correct but in this case black is clearly under no immediate pressure and can continue with Nd4 for example.

in any case on the lessons they tell you this is best and I don't see it. they tell me your rook is now on the B file so black has come out good. so the pawn sac is worth it. well how exactly?

check out post #1 and thats what the lessons says is best

After 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 I just play Bc5 instead of Nf6 which brings up the giuoco piano. Then there's no threat of Ng5 because that would simply hang the knight for white.

so far most of you support the bishop move to d7 rather than what it says in the lessons.

Avatar of tipish

also whats with that extra pawn black is losing?
