I personally enjoy the lucchini gambit or reverse halloween gambit, however if they play d4 than I'll go for the dutch defense.
is the caro kann better than the french?
By a long shot though I would just recommend e5.
Against 1.e4, I play the Petroff
Against 1.d4, I play the Nimzo-Indian (assuming they play Queen's Gambit)
Against 1.c4, I play Symmetrical English
Against 1.Nf3, I play 1...c5, which most commonly transposes to the Symmetrical English with 2.c4, but if they transpose it into the Sicilian with 2.e4, I play the Katalimov Sicilian
I DESPISE the toothless scandinavian and WANT to play rousseau, luccini, calabrese jaenish/schliemann etc. against 1.e4, but just the rousseau was so much of a move order nightmare, I quit trying to study it because it triggered my PTSD with something like 30% accuracy.
I also hate the stonewall straightjacket but an madly in love with the englund > hartlaub charlick gambit where my stats TODAY in 30 something games are officially 1% better than 2:1 at 32:65 and my accuracy in THAT is around 85%. my accuracy goes DOWN the faster I win because stalefish just hates 1...e5!? and calls it a blunder even though it had nothing to complain about for ANY other move I made in my only game today...
instead of goofy pawn moves and positional mumbo jumbo, this opening has SIMPLE plans and more aggression and mobility than any other gambit I play. follow the basic plan, develop as needed, and just keep pushing until white cracks under the pressure or just misses the tactics. Even when things go really sideways, just keeping your cool and playing sensible/thematic moves will eventually lead to a tactical opportunity.
no other opening I play is "can opener attack" (using minor pieces as battering rams) friendly as this one with its 2 bishops lined up against 0-0 with h file pawnstorming and the rest of the army ready to join the fray.
the reason I love THIS opening so much is that the recommended tactical replies to 1.d4 ALL feature fianchettos and I DESPISE fianchettos! I like centralized bishops. again... THIS opening and I are sooooo on the same page!
now if i could just get rid of stonewalling for indians etc. I'll be that much happier.
