Scholar's Mate is not an opening - it's a trap - and one that anybody with a brain would never fall for!

IMAO. What are you talking about ThrillerFan. Its a very powerful opening. An it has a name its called the Scholars Mate Opening.

ECO code 007 King Pawn, Scholars Mate Opening.

It is the cats meow in the 1300's. It has rose in popularity over the years. It use to be said as unsound until a new Novelty move was introduced.

2.Qh5!! by Nakamura.

EDIT: I'm just teasing guys lol Wanted to ruffle Thriller feathers some to see what he say. lol

Plenty of Masters haven fallen prey to ECO code 007 King Pawn, Scholars Mate Opening when they were starting out. I'm pretty sure they have brains.

Awesome recommendations. Just two thoughts.

(1) KIA for beginners often leads to closed positions. Isn't it better to play open positions when starting out?

(2) An IM I know of wrote the KID is VERY diffucult to play CORRECTLY. He felt the Gruenfeld was actually easier to play WELL. Apparently, some great KID players make their living against people who don't know how to play it correctly. Both openings are rather abstruse.

LOL Its not a real opening though lol. I was just joking with Thriller lol. I figured he needed a laugh to start off his day lol.

Yeah 007 is like the movie  Double 0 7 which is a movie of James Bond lol.

The real opening name is

ECO code C20  King Pawn Game/Wayward Queen Attack

1.e4 e5 2.Qh5

The Scholars Mate is what some would call a Mating Trap(Opening Trap).

Which is often found in that Wayward Queen Attack Opening.

It only works a few times than it stops working as soon as the opponent figures out what lol white is doing.

My favorite opening? You have never heard of it.

And wouldn't believe it if I told you.

Tactics usually happen more in open positions than closed ones that is true. However, I didn't care about tactics that much and didn't look at a lot of them only 1-3 a day. I really don't care about tactics to be honest. One day if I plan to get serious in chess. I will have to look at alot of tactics till than I'm content with doing a couple a day.

My approach about tactics is more for prevention. I learn a tactic to stop my opponent from doing that tactic against me. I rarely ever get the chance to do a bunch of tactics on my opponent. Sometimes I do but other times I don't. Yet even if I don't do the tactic usually I am already winning in the position. The reason is becuase usually to be able to do a tactic your position has to already be good.

I value positional play over tactical play.

To me getting a strong position is like a huge apple tree. The stronger, bigger, better, the tree is. The more chances of fruit (apples being made)

The stronger your position is the more tactics you will utlimately have.

An it is harder to find books and information on positional play than it is on tactics. You can do a tactical trainer all day just 10k+ tactics if you wanted to. Yet their is no positional trainer lol. where you can go and do 10k+ positional trainer moves. I have yet to find any.

I also didn't care about the stereotype of open or closed positions either. Whether the position was open or closed was irrelevent to me.

My goal was to play a line that had short theory, was simple to get into, helped develop my pieces, and made me feel comfortable( I didn't want to fall into any traps).

I played my own specific move order as well which made things easier.
