The good part is that if they move from G2 to G3, then you can check the king and take the rook. The bad part is that if they move G1 to F3, then the queen is threatened by the horse. So in my opinion this is a bad opening, even though it works half the time.

This is because that even if you take the rook the queen would have no protection and could be easily targeted by the bishop and the queen from the other player and many people would agree with me on that.

post a reply if you think this is a good position or a bad position.

this is a good position coz of the advantage of being able to disorganise the oponents strategy and pawn placement. on the other hand the queen is vulnerable at this stage. a good strategist would trap or capture her majesty. that can sting

Bad too early the queen out by uncle

I would agree with Scarjo ... but did anyone notice that the first diagram says "White to move"?  It's as if the game opened 1. e4 e6 2. Qh5 e5?

Assuming it's actually Black's move in the initial diagram:

Marvin2, if you say this position works for White even "half the time," you're playing very weak competition.

Still assuming it's Black's move in the initial diagram:

I'm pretty sure that if White gets the black rook after (say) 2 ... g3?? 3. Qxe5+ Qe7 4. QxRh8 and Black traps the white queen with 4 ... Nf6, it's still very hard for Black to actually threaten or take the white queen.  Sure, the white queen has no squares to move to for the moment, but the time it takes for Black to threaten it with anything else will allow White to keep a big advantage.

there are 5 opitions move the king up, move the queen across, move the pawn up, move the horse to the right, and left.

Bad position, but is Nf3 is moved right away, bye bye e pawn. Bad position, only good if it works and against a skilled opponent, you will die. Don't play it! (unless you are playing me)
