Did you know that Fischer had no chess talent?

At least that's what an appallingly large number of people on here seem to think. Because they don't believe in talent. As for me, I disagree.

TheGrobe
This is a decidedly weak troll attempt.
theoreticalboy

Yes, there's not even an attempt to match the style of the original troll.

goldendog

No talent for trolling I guess.

Conflagration_Planet

I'm serious. Some people on here don't believe in talent.

TheGrobe
Well if that's the case we definitely needed yet another thread on the topic -- the more inflammatory the better too.
Conflagration_Planet

What's so inflammatory about it?

TheGrobe
It's pretty well established that Fischer is a hot button topic here.
goldendog

Dull. Let's spice this up.

goldendog

Bam!

It's not too late to change the title of the forum.

They don't sell that where I'm at.

Being on occasion subject to conspiracy theories I of course suspect there is something untoward going on here. With my razzor-sharp wit I have noticed that all of the people involved in this thread so far have over 3,000 member points. Hmmm very very odd I must say. I'll have to radio the secret Saceship out beyond Mars to get more info. Might be able to post more later, then again things may have to be kept quiet --- --- ---

Just because they did not like Fischer as a person they deny his talents as having merrit.

Fischer was not the nicest guy in the world, but he could sure play chess like the best of them.

Hitler was not the nicest guy in the world either, but he sure was a great public speaker.

These people don't believe anybody has any talent because "There is no such thing as talent." It's just a matter of how much you study. Common sense says that's not so.

Yeah, I think it's on the basis of threads like this that Godwin's law was formulated.

HessianWarrior

Okay is there any really "Nice Chess Heros" or any really "Nice Dictators"?

Crazychessplaya

I agree with woodshover. If talent did not exist, we would not have prodigies of any kind. How can one explain the phenomenon of Capablanca or Sultan Khan or Carlsen without referring to their talent, as an inborn quality?

PrawnEatsPrawn

The people who say talant exists, don't know how to spell talent.
