Chu Shogo

This is a variant I invented combining the Japanese game of chu shogi 中将棋 and the Chinese game of weiqi (go). Chu shogi is played on a 12×12 board, which works as a 13×13 board for go, a standard medium size.

Gameplay is mainly focused on the chu shogi, with the go aspect as a secondary mechanic. After moving a chu shogi piece, players can place a stone on the board. Sente plays black first, with komi of 7.5. Japanese rules of go apply, with special rules for the combination of the games:

  1. If a player surrounds an orthogonally adjacent group of enemy chu shogi pieces with their color of stones, meaning that the perimeter of those pieces is fully surrounded by enemy stones, then that group is captured.
  2. Logically following, a player cannot move a chu shogi piece into an area such that the group containing that piece would be captured by enemy stones.
  3. Royal pieces cannot be captured by enemy stones, but if a royal piece is within a group that would be captured by enemy stones, all non-royal pieces are then captured.
  4. If a player resigns the game of go, his opponent receives all points made by himself, plus 5 points for the resignation, plus 10 points for victory. A player can reject his opponent's resignation in favor of playing onward, if he feels this is advantageous.
  5. If a player wins the game of go by count, he wins the difference in score, plus 10 points for victory.
  6. Points won in the go section must be spent before the winning player's next move, to purchase new pieces at the cost shown in the price list. These purchased pieces must be dropped in that player's own territory, after which the player can move any piece not just dropped. Points not immediately spent roll over to that player's next opportunity to purchase pieces.
  7. Restrictions on piece purchase apply. A player may not have more of any type of piece than found in the initial position. Pawns also cannot be dropped on the same file as another friendly pawn.
  8. After the previous game has concluded, all stones are removed from the board, and a new go game immediately begins, with colors reversed.
  9. Chu shogi winning conditions apply.

Price list:

Just checking, is weiqi another name for the game that I know as Go? Or is it a variant of Go?
