Martin0 vs the world - Event Chess Game #3

Sort:
Martin0

This is an event chess game with @Martin0 (white) against the world (black). @Martin0 won the first game, the world won the second game and this will be the third game.

Anyone can join the world team and participate in the discussion here:

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-variants/martin-vs-the-world-analysis-thread-3

Rules:

Event chess starts like a normal chess game with 2 additional rules:

  1. Each player may once/game start an event during his turn before making a move (Just say "start event").
  2. A player may not capture more than 2 pieces that are not pawns before starting an event (This is to make sure both players need to start an event).

Note that each player starting one event means a game will become a combination of 2 events.

When an event starts it will be chosen randomly from over 100 events and consists of some sort of rule changes to the game. More about event chess can be read here.

Special game rules:

There will be 2 forums for this game. In this forum I will post the rules, the moves will be made and people can ask rule questions to me. The second forum will be used for everyone else to discuss the ongoing game. I will not look at the discussion forum while the game is in progress. When the world have agreed to a move, then @rychessmaster1 will submit the move in this forum. I will not accept submitted moves by other players, unless ry has explicitly stated that member can submit moves in his place.

Time control for me is 3 days/move.

Time control for the world is 4 days/move. 3 days are meant for deciding the move, while the last day is for submitting the move. If there is a disagreement, the move with the most votes should get played.

If I do not make a move within 3 days anyone can call a timeout warning to me and if I don't make a move within 24 hours, I will lose on time.

If the world does not make a move within 4 days I can call a timeout warning. If ry does not make a move within 24 hours, then I will win on time.

I have 14 days of vacation time that I can use.

The world does not get any vacation time (if ry goes on vacation, he should tell someone else to submit moves instead).

Good luck!

Ok, I'm seeing everything.  It appears that Martin goes first, so we wait.  (Fine with me, I'm 25 feet up in the air on a ladder, painting the right half of an upper peak of a southern facing outside wall, and the sun is bright as can be.  So, … in no rush to begin.)

Hey Ry, can you pm me the discussion thread please? I don't think I'll get involved, but it'd be nice to read the chat as I observe the game.

*edit - nvm I just read the OP, Martin has linked it.

Event #87 Occupying Multiple Squares

Queens, rooks and bishops can stop between squares. They can move ½ square more/less with their normal movement. No capture can be made when stopping between squares and all adjacent squares must be unoccupied. Rooks can not be put between squares when castling.

A piece standing between 2 squares will occupy both those squares.

A piece standing between 4 squares will occupy all 4 squares.

A piece occupying several squares will be treated as if they were standing on all those squares. This means that the piece is blocking other pieces on those squares, can be captured on any of those squares and can move as if it was standing on any of those squares.

Note: A piece occupying multiple squares must be moved as if were standing on any of those squares. It cannot move "along the grid".

Notation: When moving between files, ".5" will be used. When moving between ranks, the letters for both ranks will be used. Example: Qab1.5 is the queen moving between files 1 and 2 and between the ranks a and b.

Example 1:

Whites rook is occupying both a1 and a2. Whites rook can move from any of those squares. The rook can NOT move to b1.5, since the rook can't reach there from either a1 or a2. A legal move, however is Ra7.5#

Whites rook is able to move from either a7 or a8. Black is checkmated.

Example 2:

White plays Bef3.5#

Whites bishop is able to move from either e3, e4, f3 or f4. Black is checkmated.

Example 3:

Whites bishop can be captured on any square it is occupying. Black plays Nxf4

Example 4:

Whites queen is occupying f3, f4, g3 and g4. Whites pawns on f2 and g2 are blocked and cannot move. Whites knight can not move to f3. Whites dark squared bishop can not move to f4, g5 or h6.

Martin0

@rychessmaster1, pieces still needs to walk straight along files/ranks/diagonals when stopping between squares. Qab3.5 is along the diagonal and an option for me. Qa3.5 or Qab4 are not along the diagonal and not an option.

Event #50 Queen bullies

After a queen moves, all enemy pieces that are horizontally or vertically (not diagonally) adjacent to the queen get pushed away one square away from the queen. If the pushback square is occupied or is past the end of the board, the piece is captured.

The marked red square indicate squares that are horizontally or vertically adjacent to the queen.

Example 1:

White plays Qb5. Blacks pawn on c5 get pushed to d5 and the knight on b4 gets pushed to b3. The pawn on b6 wants to be pushed to b7, but that square is occupied, so the b6 pawn is captured. The pawn on a5 should be pushed one square to the left, but that square is outside the board, so the a5 pawn is captured.

Example 2:

Black is in check since white is threatening to capture blacks king with Qxh7 (which would push blacks king outside the board). Black can not play Kg8 since then the king is captured after Qg7. Black can not play Kg7, since then whites queen can capture normally with Qxg7. Black is checkmated.

Special example:

Black plays Qd4.5.

Blacks queen is occupying d4, while one of whites bishops occupies d3. Whites bishop gets pushed from d3 to d2.

Since blacks queen and bishop are adjacent to each other on both c4-d4 and c5-d5, black gets to choose if he wants to push whites bishop to either b4 or b5. Black chooses b4.

I offer a draw.

Qa4+ followed by Qxa7 is a bit too cheap.

Martin0

Or to be precise the continuation should be Qab3.5+ (threatening both Qxe8 and Qe7) followed by Qxa7 (winning a rook and 2 pawns).
