Rb1 is not legal. My e7 pawn is hanging.

lol.

And here I thought you wanted to ignore other rules like responding Bc3+ with Bxb7 and ignore my check.

Nc3 was a mistake since it allows me to get my queen to b4. I should have gone there directly, but I only realized directly after I played d6.

Getting my queen to b4 should have been more mild after you have played Be2. The main reason being that your king has the f1 square available.

In this position black needs to be careful that white has no combination. I am threatening a pawn, so I must make a capture next move. There fortunately isn't any tactic for white (that I can see), so the most aggressive move is Qe4. Qf4. Note that if white still has his bishop on f1, then black has Qxc3, Qc2# as a response, so then white would not have this option:

In this position I was actually planning to bail out and play Qxc4, Qc5. I have won a pawn and not much things going on there. But the critical line (which I would avoid) is of course Qxc3 Qc2+ Kf1

This is where blacks problems starts. Black is forced to capture pawns. The most greedy being Qxb2 Qxa1. Black can also try Qxb2, Qc2, but after white plays Re1, black must play Qb2, Qxa2 and black would face the same problems. The problem being that white plays Bxf6.

Black needs to make a capture since the a2 pawn is hanging. Bxf6 looses to Qg5, Qh6# and if black does not capture the bishop, but plays Qxa2, Qb1, then white plays Bxg7 with mate to follow. Kxg7 Qg4, Qg5+ Kg8 Qh5, Qh6#. So blacks only option is exf6, when white has to play Qe5 Qxd6

White is threatening Qd7, Qe7+ Kh8 Qxf8, Qxf7#. Black has to capture the a2 pawn, so black can't prevent it. So this is a winning line for white. If white would have moved his queen to f4 I would be satisfied with winning a pawn.

I spent some time calculating these lines before moving my queen to b4, but then you pretty instantly played a different move which pretty much instantly lose for white happy.png

You are correct.

Black can just play Qd2 Qxe2+ instead of Qd2 Qxe1+ in your line. It is winning for black indeed.

Kinda hard to calculate happy.png

I would have taken an extra look at the lines before I would decide between Qxc4 Qc5 and Qxc3 Qc2+, but most likely yes, I would have missed it.

Martin0

I was focusing on looking for checkmates, not winning whites queen. Nh5 did not cross my mind at all.

White should play Bxf6 instead of Re1 though.
