The way I've read as a way to value the witch is by how much it helps with maneuverability. The more long range pieces (Bishops, Rooks, and Queen) still on the board, the more powerful witch is.

It's a variable:

1+s (slider pieces)

There's a rating, so I told matin. There's so many games we sometimes have to tell him.

It's worth about 7 pawns.

@evert823 I've been waiting to play a game with those pieces!

Shall I start our thread then? I can moderate the game.

The value of the witch is not just the amount of leapers, but also depends if there is a good outpost for the witch and if the position is opened/closed. Closed = better for the witch.

@Fly-Eagles-Fly's definition is good. I wouldn't really trust any specific value set for it. It really depends on the position how useful it is.

By the way, I have offered to trade my witch against @Junebug444's knight in 2 games (1 ongoing). In neither game has he accepted my trade. I don't think I value the witch nearly as highly as most people here happy.png

Yes, I have been thinking about that variant a lot myself. I wonder how it would be... Probably chaotichappy.png

Here my last move was Wh6. It's true that I am up a piece, but regardless of that, I would be happy if white traded with Nxh6 ixh6. It would improve my pawn structure. A knight and improved pawn structure sounded more than enough to me, despite the position being quite closed and there being many pieces left, which should benefit the witch.

Exactly!

How do you value a bishop v. knight? BY THE POSITION.

I think it’s the opposite. I think people overvalue the witch.

false! It saves lives! Once it saved a trapped queen!

And it gets queens too. I lost by the witch to JohnHS!

Yes, of course I believe in my own evaluation, so it is others that overvalue it. happy.png

I believe YOU undervalue it!

It's great for attacking, versatile, but I'd say it starts as 5.5 to 6 pawns and deceases in value per sliding piece. With 2 rooks but no bishops or queens, it's about worth a minor piece.

The witch can be quite useful in opposite side castling and the opponent moves a pawn in front of the king happy.png

In other news, I just beat @Junebug444 to defend my champion title. happy.png

Wait, can I challenge you?

Fly-Eagles-Fly

By the rule of needing a level-two victory, a lot of people can challenge Martin0, I think. That's why the system needs reworked. There's a thread for discussion in the bulldog chess forum.

Martin0

I have a feeling that no matter how good rating/results I get I will not manage to convince some people what the value of the witch is. I don't think there is much point in me arguing.

The forum regarding the next challenger (which was hoping to be done before this game finished, but apparently was not)

Yes, the system needs to be reworked and/or upgraded. I'd like to turn this responsibility over to a federation. It might be similar to the International Chess Federation (also known as FIDE, or "Fédération Internationale des Échecs or World Chess Federation").

If anyone would like to be a member of this federation please visit the link above (post by by Martin0).happy.png

Our game of Waterloo was pretty interesting, but now you want to play even a bigger game (more pieces and more complex)? That's pretty ambitious.surprise.png

I was discussing Clash of Mythic Titans with its developer (@BattleChessGN18) and I don't consider the game to be completely finished. He got 99% there, but I think it's currently not playable.

The first task would be to finalize the rules, and present them in a single place where it is easy to understand. Will be fun to see someone try it.happy.png

Me and rychessmaster would like to play a game of bulldog chess with witch. Can someone please MOD the game?

I can moderate this game, but I'll be travelling for about 1 week from about May 10 - May 17. During that time there might be delays (can't logon every day). Time spent waiting for a board update doesn't count as playing time (3-day time control). If you both would like to play please reply here and I'll start a thread.happy.png

Really? Is the 'clash of mythic titans' almost ready? I would have thought that would take longer... I myself would like to try as I think it would be very interesting.
