Well, it is most likely that I have a high IQ since I see most humans as toxic. I could be from a different, more advanced species.

Or you're a kid going through a phase.

Whichever is more likely I suppose, heh

There is too much toxicity in this world.

It is amazing how there can be so much toxicity near me.

Pick one or the other.

If you spend all day on forums talking like a brat, I very much doubt it.

Unfortunately college isn't likely to push you very hard. Not on its own. You'll have to make an effort to join other groups within the college.

How do you know they're reliable?

Statistics.

Intelligence isn't a number.

I was talking about IQ, not intelligence.

Savage47 wrote:

You're measuring something that there isn't any point of reference to compare to.

That's the opposite of how IQ tests work.

Savage47 wrote:

you say Einstein is 2x as intelligent as Forrest Gump because his IQ is twice Forrest's.

That's now how IQ works.

Savage47 wrote:

I say how do you know the IQ test is valid and your answer is because Einstein is twice as smart as Forrest.

Not only is that dumb, I'd never say it.

Yeah, pretty much.

In fact if it had been you asking those dumb questions and not Savage, I was going to say "I know because my dick is like... reeeaaaally big"

Because that's what this amounts to: a juvenile pissing contest.

But it was savage who made that bad post and not you. Oh well.

unreliability of IQ tests.

The common ones are extremely reliable. It's just a matter of statistics. The ones with a cap of 145 or so.

It's the ones that allow people to score super high that are silly.

lol the common ones seem silly to me, since they have easy questions and the only thing that they test is speed.

if the only thing you care is speed then OK, but if you really want to test your ability to think logically and solve problems, then you need much harder questions.

that also explains, why many ppl with supposed high IQ, they actually think like stupid quite frequently. they scored high in "normal" tests (without any challenges) and then presume they are intelligent and they use their brains even less.

But such IQ is good predictor of success, since if you can think whatever everyone else thinks, but faster than them, you appear smart. That doesn’t in any way imply that you can solve harder problems.

There is a scientific way to increase a person's native intelligence. I remember it being discussed in the movie Forbidden Planet.

IQ doesn’t matter if you want to be a class player. ANYONE with an IQ over 100 can get to 1200+ with practice. Also, kind of off topic, IQ affects job performance rather little. EQ is a much better tool on how successful you will be in life.

IQ does matter if you want to become world champion.

But for most people, they aren’t for that.

I'm different from most people. No wonder I can't relate to anyone.

You probably just lack social skills, which are learnable.

Statistics?

There are three types of lies.

Lies,

Damned Lies,

and

Statistics.

Which is typical for many chess players.

As is the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Many people who consider themselves "different" and "unable to relate" assume that this is due to their "extraordinary intelligence", when it really is simply a lack of social skills.

Not that this applies to MMTMIT...I am sure that this person is the genius that s/he assumes to be.

Historically speaking, it was believed that IQ was determined either by birth or shortly after.  However, I've always believed this to not be the case.  In high school, I was given two IQ tests.  1 at the start of the year and a second at the end.  The first IQ test gave me an IQ of 120, plus or minus 7 points for a margin of error.  The second one, at the end of the year, gave me a score of 138, plus or minus 7 points.  That's a significant move higher.  The only difference during that period was that, about four or five hours a day, I dedicated my time to playing, reading, or doing something else regarding chess.  So, from my case, I do believe IQ can be changed when you're young enough (I was in 10th grade at the time).  I'd venture to say my IQ today would probably be higher, but every person has their limits.  I will probably never have an IQ of 180, for instance, but somebody else might accomplish this.

Exactly. Much of what you're asked to do in an IQ test are actually taught in school or can be picked up in general reference works. Some of the errors on the IQ test I took as part of my military service were due to the fact that I hadn't studied physics at a sufficiently high level.

No, you just don't understand the nuances of statistics and fall for the booby traps related to them.

Yes, Learning to spell or use auto-correct would be a good start.

Smart is as smart does.

But statistics themselves are booby traps.
