Chat disabled

Hi, I am new to Chess.com.  I have played just two gales against the computer and one against a friend.  On the latter my fried was able to message me, but my chat was disabled.  It was his very first game.  Tried all the settings I could find but nothing works.  I am playing on Windows 10 laptop, he is on a Mac.

Thanks, but that doesn't explain why my friend can send chat messages to me - it was his first game?

He has only played one game and that was against me.  I have played over 10 on line games and still cannot chat with anybody, unless they all happen to have chat disabled?

I think you are just too new. You might have to be at least a week or a month old to be able to chat. 

GM, that doesn't explain why my friend who is newer than me and has only played one game can chat and I can't

Does it have anything to do with your maybe being in "safe mode" in your chess.com settings? I had that problem with forums and found help here: https://support.chess.com/article/1196-what-is-safe-mode-and-how-do-i-turn-it-on
