uritbon, i agree, but believe that this is near the top of the to do list.

In fact, soon, they will restructure the Online Chess resources.

A few suggestions for consideration by the chess.com team in order to improve quite significantly this good quailty chess site.

1)  Improve the live chess site, i.e. improve the timer function!! A number of other chess sites can manage this problem, e.g. the Russian site instantchess.com. It's quite annoying to loose a game only because a timer function is not up to speed in the last e.g. 10 seconds or so. From what I see on various threads, the chess.com team is aware of this, but it's a must if chess.com is to be considered as a serious chess site.

2)  The analysis board is just great. It would however in my opinioun optimize that functionality if

a) the analysis board could show captured pieces. You'd often want to see what was the result of a specific variation, i.e. be able to see directly on the analysis board if you gained material. It can be counted of course, but it would improve the functionality;

b) various positions/variations could be saved for further analysis, without having to write each variation down in the "Notes".

Dear chess.com team - my apologies if these proposals for improvement have allready been mentioned during the past 20 pages of thread - in that case you may disregard my input :-)

I've played for a good number of years, and... chess.com is just great!

could you show captured pieces as are taken with out having to switch your message board

Something that people, including me, wish was available is the ability to enter non chess.com games into the computer analysis. You might say that that might encourage cheating, but if people wanted to cheat, they could just download a free engine.

Nice list. Even a partial number of things on the list becoming reality would be great.

A partial number of things on the list HAVE become reality ...

  • Coaching mode (with takebacks)
  • Mobile/iphone support
  • QA with top player article

and it IS great!

I think it may be a good idea to be able to set a time limit when playing the chess computer, so can set the total time to say 10 minutes. If go over the time would lose the game. I think this would be useful for improving blitz games against people, and would stop me from feeling I have to play as quick as the computer!

Another idea would be in playing the computer to able to set the time per move allowed against the computer, and use of accumulated Fischer/incremental time. etc.

I would like a pony and a Porsche if you could get that for me, t/y

It's distinctly awkward playing chess while driving/riding either of these - and try to make sure you get the riding/driving the right way round.

I have a feature request for the forums -- add an Ignore User button.  Currently you can block people through Account --> Privacy, but that only affects messages & notes.  I would like it if that was either extended to forum posts, or if there was an alternate facility that would hide posts from selected users.  Most other forums I've seen provide this ability, and it goes a long way towards enhancing their usability, by providing a means to skip over useless content from attention-seeking children.

I just underwent a huge setback to my rating. I saw a game which I wanted to play, it was a 15 minute long game, and was going to click 'accept' when some game previous in the list was removed, so the location I clicked happened to be a 1 minute quick game. Needless to say, I was grossly unprepared to play a quick game, and had to lose, suffering a -121. I could have just closed the window, maybe, but the opponent was playing white and started immediately. Can we have a confirm box after we click the accept button?

Something like this:

"Are you sure you wish to accept this game?

playername rating time (game type) "

This could lead to interesting situations.

Consider a typical forum discussion featuring Tom, Dick and Harry & Sally.

1st scenario: Tom has blocked Harry. Harry has blocked Tom.

From the viewpoints of the 4 participants, the discussion will look like this ...

Sally (No blocking)

Tom

Dick

Harry

Who is the best chess player?

Who is the best chess player?

Who is the best chess player?

Who is the best chess player?

Fischer

Fischer

Fischer

Best in what sense?

Best in what sense?

Best in what sense?

Best in what sense?

Fischer was rubbish! Kasparov

Fischer was rubbish! Kasparov

Fischer was rubbish! Kasparov

Fischer was rubbish! Kasparov

Kasparov was beaten by a computer! Morphy

Kasparov was beaten by a computer! Morphy

Kasparov was beaten by a computer! Morphy

2nd scenario : Tom has blocked Harry. Harry has blocked Dick. Dick has blocked Tom(This assumes that Harry can't read it and Tom can't write in it.)

Sally (No blocking)

Tom

Dick

Harry

Who is the best chess player?

Who is the best chess player?

Who is the best chess player?

Best in what sense?

I've seen the system in action elsewhere; it works fine.  Typically, you'll see that there exists a post by a blocked user, but the content itself is hidden unless you explicitly click a button to show it... so if you really feel you're missing out on some piece of conversation, you can opt to read it.

In practice, though, I think most people only block users who are obviously trolls, or otherwise forum-impaired.  It saves time and annoyance to see immediately that you can ignore a particular poster, and it cuts down on forum abuse because it's more difficult for them to get attention.

in my experience people end up opening those "hidden" posts 90% of the time anyway out of curiosity :)

b. Allow for analysing (and not only replaying) finished games, so that one could investigate "what if I had played 17. a4 instead of a3...";

Ideally Analysis board could become an environment like ChessBase or Chess Assistant, but of course leaner and web-based (I mean, chess.com-based). Right now I have to copy all my games to ChessBase for analysis (thanks to PGN export feature), but if Analysis board became more powerful, I could easily analyse everything right here. ...

It is possible to achieve this by accessing the Analysis Board via Game Explorerhttp://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/practice-board

There is no facility yet to launch Game Explorer from a FEN string, but it on the list for consideration.  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/premium_members/game-explorer-feature-request

It can be done - but it's hard work. http://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/wyswyg-editor-and-quoting

The way I would address that is that, if you ever unblocked someone in that way, you could never block them again. That would make you think twice.

Would you be permitted to block the staff of a beta site? Or would that require a special beta-blocker?

This is one hell of a long list, owl Santa will be smiling!

I have 2 suggestions:

1) Improve the Learn:articles section with more structured content. Something more like a book with chess lessons.

2) Make a kids chess site with a simpler set of features (based on chess.com) and limit the age to lets say 15 years old. The parents who are chess.com subscribers can pay an additional fee for some kids memberships, or they could be free as basic memberships. I have an 8 year old son who is starting to learn and he doesn't have friends who play. I am thinking of basic features like tactics trainer (without clock), game explorer, live chess, chess learning for kids. You already have the hard work done. Think it as a baby chess.com site designed for children.

I would like to have your opinion of these ideas
